The C-130 is the smallest fixed-wing aircraft in US military service that is used for mass tactical airborne operations.
As far as smaller fixed wing aircraft, the USMC in the past used the OV-10 Bronco to insert small teams of parachutists (usually Recon and ANGLICO).
The little plane could fit up to five parachutists very uncomfortably into the rear compartment; they had to sit in single file, like a Pez dispenser.
The US Navy has the C-2 Greyhound or "Cod" on its carriers and they can be configured for airborne operations (usually SEALs).
Helicopters are used for airborne operations as well.

Not just the 50s. The C-47 (civilian DC-3) was in US service from 1941 all the way into the middle of the Vietnam war in various roles, including the AC-47 "Spooky" gunship.

It might be realistic if the mod focused on covert operations. That type of thing is more CIA Military Special Projects than USSOCOM (though that may be possible) and certainly not conventional military. The Golden Knights and Black Daggers use small jets for their exhibition jumps
