'[R-DEV wrote:Evilhomer']i would like to see it placed in, but like eddie said, it would take up an entire runway! It's Huge!
What about a smaller 'jump plane'. In other words, do they always use a C130 when jumping into a location?

I know the military has, in the past, re-purposed commercial craft for paratroopers. Look at the C-47 (C-46) that was used in the 50's.

So, imho, I think it would be reasonably realistic to have a re-purposed jump-plane. Maybe do it all up in black, modified with a side jump door and military markings. Gutted interior and jump-seats. Personally, I think that would be awesome...a sepc-ops low-altitude jump plane. 8-)

Can you jump out of a Cessna XLS? One of those, in black spec-ops style, would be killer...

The C-130 is the smallest fixed-wing aircraft in US military service that is used for mass tactical airborne operations.

As far as smaller fixed wing aircraft, the USMC in the past used the OV-10 Bronco to insert small teams of parachutists (usually Recon and ANGLICO).

The little plane could fit up to five parachutists very uncomfortably into the rear compartment; they had to sit in single file, like a Pez dispenser.

The US Navy has the C-2 Greyhound or "Cod" on its carriers and they can be configured for airborne operations (usually SEALs).

Helicopters are used for airborne operations as well.

Not just the 50s. The C-47 (civilian DC-3) was in US service from 1941 all the way into the middle of the Vietnam war in various roles, including the AC-47 "Spooky" gunship. :)

It might be realistic if the mod focused on covert operations. That type of thing is more CIA Military Special Projects than USSOCOM (though that may be possible) and certainly not conventional military. The Golden Knights and Black Daggers use small jets for their exhibition jumps

Eddie, thanks - tons of excellent info in that post!

Who could forget Puff the Magic Dragon!

Well, I think if the C130 is too huge for BF2 - than maybe the C-2 Greyhound would be a cool alternative model. Would work good on the carrier too, I would think.

Looks like size-wise it could be perfect.

I would not want to be in the back of (or anywhere in for that matter) that OV-10 if there was any AA fire.
