[Question] bf2 guided bomb?

ye, what we want to do is remove all the "heat sigs" off the tanks so that planes can not just fly over the map, see a box, and bomb it.... What we want to do is have the troops of the ground "point out" a target with there designator, then the plane will see the box, will be able to lock its laser guided bombs onto it, drop, and boom.

That is the hard bit, its easy to make a bomb that locks on a follows a target.

If the plane just had the laser guided bomb, and could see every tank and just lock onto them, it would be too easy and too spammy for gameplay, and would only add to the "lone wolfeyness" of flying a jet, not what I or the rest of the devs want to see.

AFAIK , mavericks dont need a spoter to lock on vehicles in real life...

well, you said " remove all the "heat sigs" off the tanks ", i troug you were talking about missils too , wicht seems unrealistic .

bomb heat sigs, missiles heat sigs would stay. There are all types of heat sigs :p

can you make a soflam create a marker thing just like a tvguided missile?

and if you can, can you make a bomb lock on to the marker from another player?

i have, and i asked another question where does it say on all of your posts if you cant or cant make a soflam create a "marker". all you said that is what you want to do.

soflam = laser designater

and the problem with the hard code is getting it to make a marker properly, as they said in the last few posts

well in the post by you you say that you were trying to shoot a projectile very fast and that would lag the game out, and if you try to make it lock on to the projectile then it would lock on to the projectile in flight and that would mess up the bomb, and if you try to make it lock on to the explosion from the projectile you would run into more problems. and you know the rest cus you wrote it.

so here is what i think, i could be wrong i am not saying i am right.

dont use a projectile use the marker thing that the tvguided missiles and laser guided missiles on the a10 use, unless that uses a projectile.

make it so that there can only be one marker in the game at one time, and make it create a new marker when ever the player clicks. this would make it be able to track moving objects.


now i am sorry if i seem dumb cus i am not getting something but i am almost sure i understand.

The problem is the A-10 uses the AGM-25 that requires a lock and shoots a missile that once launches stays at a constant speed. There is visible RANGE to consider on top of that, there were never any true "Designators" designed in the vBF2 original game.

It would require ALOT of COMBINED effort from alot of different types of people to even make it work, but make it work realistically is another issue. I'd love to see it happen personally.

Thats the thing, there was in the oringal plan.

watch to the very end of that video, you will see the laser designator.

The thing is DiCE Sweeden conviviality "broke" the code for the designator in one of there early BF2 patches for BF2, or it was broken on release I aint 100% sure on that, but we cant use it nor can we fix it cos its part of the engine that stuff. So the only way is to work around it which in turn, becomes very, very complicated.

Ok I know nothing about coding but I thaught I would throw this Idea in so.
Is their any way to make the SOFLAM place an invisible vechial that has no collision with all objects and then as it spawns is their anyway to be able to exploite the glich in BF2 where a vecial shows up even though theirs no one in it.
Feel free to say theis is Compleatly stupid but I thought I would put it out their.

Ok wait in real life, planes don't need laser designators to bomb tanks. Tanks produce heat which is picked up by the LANTIRN pod (or the new SNIPER pod). These were used to great effect in 1991 and most US air campaigns following. One of the main purposes of a guided bomb is to reduce the amount of external input needed by ground forces (marking friendly positions in ww2 with smoke). In 1991, flights were assigned "boxes" of desert to attack with PGMs. Laser designators are more meant to point out where the enemy is, not to make them visible. Of course you can bomb any heat source you see, but most would be friendly. If LGMs needed ground troops to point out where every single tank was then how could planes bomb something deep in enemy territory? Locate the target, fly a team of special forces, lase it, bomb it (even though it has been already located), and fly them out again? How could you possibly win a war that way? Lets just make this realistic ok? Yes laser designators are real L337 and cool to use, but IRl they're used in either a cluttered environment to reduce collateral damage or in an area where locating a target would be difficult. Sometimes they aren't used at all and a UHF radio is used instead to give the pilot coordinates and visual references.

In modern warfare, TLD's (Target Laser Designators) are used for a few purposes. FO's use them to mark targets for Copperhead artillery guidance onto armored vehicles or when precision artillery is required such as hitting an insurgent house next to a school. Another use is to lase a target for a gunship (ie Apache) so that the gunship can get a lock on the target without having to actually expose itself. They can then fire over or around their cover, and still maintain a solid lock on the target. Most aircraft that operate with LGB's have their own onboard laser guidance, but they must remain over the target area until the bomb strikes because the laser has a limited line of sight from the underside of the aircraft. In situations where they do not want the aircraft to remain overhead (usually just making a banking turn to keep the laser pointed down), then a ground troop or other marking unit will guide the bomb for the aircraft.

All of those uses listed above are not yet implemented in PR yet, and some might not even be possible. As of right now, I only see limited desire to add any of the above features. Copperhead rounds might be nice if artillery is introduced and they are available on a very limited supply, and LGB's might be nice as well. But developing the TLD will most likely need to be done at the same time as the developement of such weapon platforms, and most likely by the same group.
