Lets just face it. People hate snipers because a decent one has the ability to take your head off without you knowing he was ever there. Yet, the second you see a sniper, your more than happy to empty an M4 mag into his chest even though he has pulled out a knife.

I can tell you I saw a whole lot more tanks and APCs in my grunt days than I saw snipers. We would routinely work with LAV's and even tanks if you were assigned to work with a Mech unit.SiN|ScarFace wrote:while that would be nice, then vehicles other than jeeps wouldnt work either.
I am trying to count the times I saw a sniper element attached to a unit in the field. Other than hanging around the STA platoon area, I only saw them maybe once or twice. As I said, snipers are stategic Battalion level assets that for the most part, work independantly. You might pull a REACT type mission for them at the platoon level should they get into trouble, ie. you supported them, but I don't ever recall running into combat with a sniper team at my side.
My vote: Remove them and relace them with this Radio Operator kit I keep reading about. Now that's a decent idea.
PS - Yes it is irritating to get your head popped repeatedly by an unseen sniper. So irritating in fact that it ruins the game for me. I got into PR for the running firefghts and squad tactics. Not to be popped by a bunch of l337 sn1pz0rz doods. I don't even mind one being out there as long as it's one. Haveing 4 or 5 out there is just plain irritating and unrealistic. I'd rather go play something else. Pong sports for example.

Someone with brain. This is what i've been trying to say on a million threads.Maj.b00bz wrote:Why are snipers in a squad level game at all? Even at the 64 player limit the best you could call this game is Platoon level. In the USMC snipers are a Battalion level asset assigned to HQ Company STA platoon. I never saw a sniper attached to a squad for other than insertion purposes.
Remove them entirely and have a system like the FH mod where there's one kit per side on certain maps. Once the kit is out, it doesn't come back for a long time.

YES EXACTLY! except I feel that a marksman role with a slightly more accurate semi auto ironsite rifle (m14 for usmc/g3 for mec?) would be a better replacement if it was very limited of course.Maj.b00bz wrote: PS - Yes it is irritating to get your head popped repeatedly by an unseen sniper. Then you have the problem that the people who become Snipers may be a crock of shit. If that doesnt happen some jealous wanker will probably teamkill them to take the slot.

how dose AA solve this problem again? aint played it in ages and never was a sniper in it but if i rmeber right you have to do some sort of training course before you could select the sniper class.
But if you where to just limmit the amount of snipers you have you will have a HUGE Smacktard prob with tking and all the rest of that shit going on for the gun...
you will have to think long and hard how you solve that prob

"How did AA solve this problem."
Yes indeed, America's Army required a training course to be done to qualify for the sniper position - though in truth it wasn't that difficult to complete (Special Forces was a lot harder to do). However, I think PR would benefit immensely by some sort of qualification for the spot. A certain amount of time as regular infantry qualifies you for Designated Marksman, then a certain amount of time as DM qualifies you for the sniper position. There would be no cheat, no quick way to do it, no walkthrough on the net or whatever. You simply have to do the time.

Then when you pick it up you can be sure the next guy to come arround the corner is a friendly team mate, well he was ment to be friendly but he blew your head off for it and runs off till he gets shot by anouther team m8'[R-PUB wrote:ir0nside']I think that you should only be able to pick up the sniper kit if you are currently using designated marksman kit. The sniper kits should also spawn at your home base only, so that you have to spawn there to pick one up and trek all the way up.

I can see that a few of you have had a few bad experiences with class limits. But as someone who has played quite a few games of DOD, which regularly has class limits and friendly fire on, I can't say it has ever been that much of a problem for me. Most of my team mates have been respectful enough to let me die on my own before they take the rifle from me.

I, personally, don't see a problem with only one sniper kit ...
Usually the reason people go for this kit is either the "hey cool im a sniper" feeling, or they just want a gun that actually kills people and is somewhat accurate.
Since all the PRMM guns (well except for a certain MEC gun *hint hint*) actually kill people, not as many people will feel the need to play as a sniper. I have a good idea
, how about we MAKE A POLL!
See how many people would rather play as a sniper, either by themselves or in a squad, so as to gauge the amount of sniper-whoring that will go in a game ...

snipers are cool like ninjas are cool. Its fun to pop heads from an unknown location at long range.
It needs to be limited, even in its nerfed state people still play the shit out of USMC sniper, and when its accurate again even more people will play it.
1 per team is the easiest solution without reinventing the wheel.

1 per team would cause fights... "No I want to be the sniper." "No me!"
I'll use the sniper rifle when the bullet acts like a real bullet.. I'm assuming the scope should be somewhat calibrated.. but not for 10 meters.. You zoom in fire at a guy laying prone (you are above him) he's 60 meters away.. you can see the bullets hitting the ground 3 feet away from him all over.. come on.. properly adjusted rifles just don't do that unless your are jumping up and down while firing...
How about this.. someone said we should be able to adjust the scope depending on range and wind(how can we tell?) ... how about you look at a particular area.. you hit a single key.. the calibrate key.. 5 seconds or less and the scope is set up for the distance you your point at when you hit the button.. how about that? It would mean the snipers would have to take their time and be sneaky.. Otherwise they would get caught with their pants down.. like they do now!
... But with a small amount of hope.

I don't know what the solution is, so I am not going to offer up any suggestions. However, there are considerations that might not be so obvious to some. I am religiously engaged in the sniper/scout role; calling out positions, taking shots when I can, etc. However, the initial reason for my kit choice being "sniper" is, being a welder/fabricator by trade, my hands are pretty messed up. It is very difficult for me to maintain all the movements required for the other roles; I find a place to "hide" and "do the job". Just my $0.02

I love snipers that call out enemies... Problem is snipers that hide so well they are the last ones alive.. and all their flags are gone... If they even take 1 shot, everyone can hear it.. I'm learning what every single gun sounds like so it's pretty fun to know what's what... but as I was saying
.. They take a shot and everyone knows where he is.. he's good as dead.
Sneak you say? Well that takes too long for the dead team so they try to kick him... it's a win, lose, lose situation being a sniper

I really think that one sniper per team is a good limitation.
I've been playing Red Orchestra (WW2 UT2K4 mod also aiming for realism) quite alot for over a year now, and I don't think there's a single map where there's more than one sniper "kit" per team.
And having played alot of public games of RO and spent alot of time as a sniper myself, I can honestly say I can't remember a single case of someone TK'ing for the sniper rifle.
