more "Civil" Civilians?

Post by DarkTalon »

A few Days ago I was on battlarena's server where a civilian volunteered to help us, at first we were pretty suspicious and we all kept our heads on a swivel as we followed his car to the "cache" when we got there we all bailed and secured the area, sure enough there was a cache, we brought him back to the VCP with the commander once he started getting TKed. he then drove around leading us to caches for the rest of the round.

seeing as civilians are fairly underplayed i suggest we make them more influential in a battle, not sure if this is possible but if anyone remembers the I82 mod for BF1942, there was a "hand" weapon, when you right click the character would make a suggestive gesture.

perhaps we could make the rock have a new alternate fire, when right clicked the civilian will play an animation in which he raises both of his hands in the air. (maybe his player tag above him would become viewable by the enemy) this would be a "surrender" state, when an enemy knifes or shoots a "surrendered" civilian he will lose as many points as he would a teammate.

when the civilian switches to another weapon such as binoculars or a shovel he will lose his "surrender" status and become vulnerable to arrest.

the civilian should be removed from any squad he/she is in and lose the ability to spot when surrendered.
of course this entire suggestion depends on how players feel about civilians betraying their fellow countrymen, and whether this is better left to the "honor system"
also by helping, i mean the civilian should have to get in a car and lead the coalition forces in choppers/IFVs/or light vehicles to to the cache (or ambush ;-) )

we had alot of fun with this in beta.
and to those who argue no one will want to be a prisoner...

I tried this on Al Bashra. All I get was lots of "lol" from my team and a stab in my back... quite a few times ;) Maybe with this system you suggest that wouldnt happen and you could be Judas without consequences ;)

what would really mix things up would be the addition of civilian bots with tweaked AI on servers that could handle it

This is a preety good idea and it was very fun to have happen in the beta, lately I havent seen the civileans put to any "real" use mainly because the newbies just shoot them

I love this idea! Although I think giving away cache locations is a bit extreme because if you get 3 civilians that cooperate and give away cache locations its not gonna be any fun. I like the surrender idea also =D Nothing sucks more then handing out dressings to a injured british guy and then getting knifed :/

If you want to switch teams then go ahead otherwise you are a civilian sympathetic to the insurgents. This is basically 'ghosting'

Maybe your idea could be that the british side should have civilians also but that doesnt make much sense either.

This ranks alongside people who play spec ops and 'cleverly' camp the enemys ucb for most of the game, spawn killing. Its a fps not a rpg

I dont mind open tactics, do whatever you like but there is no difficulty, challenge or balance to what you suggest.
Your actions just screw the rest of your own team over like the idiots who drive the cars into the river on helmond every time its played

Further nerfing of insurgents should be a reason for a new faction: Al-Basrah; UK vs Chickens!

If people would play the map as it supposed to be I think barely any would be won by the ins. Now any player with personal subjectivism would apply for a civil and steal the fun what's left from others. And what would those have in compensation? Killing the traitor is a pile of sh*t after the damage done.

The main problem is that not everybody is going to be trusted by insurgents to give away their caches' locations. Thus having a traitor should never lead to the destruction of weapon caches, as soon as he surrenders, all locations should be invisible for him and he could only rely on his memory. Still it is way too easy to expoit...

Some delay for surrender to take effect (after raising your hands or whatever that is)? 5-10 seconds or even more? And yes, obviously some limits to see caches or teammates after that (if it isn't hardcoded like usually).

@ OP Well then the insurgent team should be able to shoot the civilians without penalty.
Meh, I doubt this would have a beneficial effect on gameplay. The risk of getting shot and stabbed by the Brits seems only fair if you're gonna essentially cripple your own team.

How about a shirt change when the civi's go through the process of surrender. Say they change from green to blue. Signifying that they're blue force friendly.
