why are all maps at the extreems of terain?

Post by jackal22 »

all there seems to be imo is;

mec maps:

desert, desert, sand, desert, desert, sand, desert, building, desert, sand, desert, desert,

pla maps:

jungle, jungle, river, jungle, jungle, buildings, jungle, swamp, jungle, jungle, bamboo, jungle,

why are there not more different types of maps? im sure as hell there are a few places in china where there are just gentle rolling hills with low grass, or there are middle eastern places like along the river nile where there are fertile strips of land. (why not fight in egypt?)

it just seems to me that so many of the maps are cliche z0mg no grass in mec land or bamboo spam in pla town...

not saying i could do better or anything and i appreciate the effort involved but please please please dont keep adding the same re-used stuff, i mean dice maps had more variety

We haven't nuked the globe yet, so that's why you won't see cherry trees in Basrah for a long time.

qwai and kyogan are cosnsidered river , hoh isnt considered a map :p , helmand and mestia are the exception , but the first is a pain in the *** to play as insurgent .

Gotta admit I'd like to see some MEC maps that didn't primarily involve copious amounts of sand...

But yeah, try playing some of the other maps lol.

Well, there are some desert regions in China (example: Gobi desert).

Chineese on sand FTW

I'd love to see some bigger Afghanistan maps. Its actually a lush country as Helmand (the PR map) shows.

yah a little more variety would be nice.

I just got an Idea for a new setting for chineese maps. Maybe there could be a map based in tibet where the US is paratrooping in and they attempt to free tibet from china. Maybe there could be resistance fighters on the us side that could help the fight or even you could have the whole map just insurgents Vs. China.

I always have a blast on Helmand. People says it's spammy but you are issued grenades to clear out buildings in real life after all so I see no issue and just have fun.

ok let me rephrase, more variety maps that are more balanced/more playable, servers seem to love desert and jungle maps compared to mixed types, i mean as has been mentioned helmand is just a lagalicious spam feast on 64 players =(

I would like to see big helmand-type maps - with no funny looking hills, just gentle hill-sides, like in reality... open areas with some kinda cover (bushes, rocks, waveing ground) so that "GET DOWN!" doesn't mean stand still untill they shoot you.

I was talking to duckhunt on TS the other day, he was talking about his RM training and he was talking about the grenades and in his own word he said "the crappy thing about nade spam is that its realistic. We are taught to chuck 3 or 4 nades into 1 room all at the same time before we move into it". Nade spam aint unrealistic, its just not nice for the person who gets spammed with nades.

^^Its effective to nade a flag before moving in. Afterall, you have nades for a reason.

Just be happy that nades in PR aint like nades in ArmA... Those things KILL

The issues with vBF2 core mean that whilst terrain maps look pretty, they have major issues with gameplay.

1) You see from a point lower than your ingame figures eyes, meaning too easy to not see enemy yet them to see your head and kill you when terrain is between you.

2) lack of 'natural terrain' working incombination with point 1) There are no natural features you can drop into and be safe from enemy fire really as are in Novalogics : Joint Operations (I originally came over from the Reality Mod for JO when I heard about the Reality Mod for BF2 after trying vanilla and laughing my *** off)

Therefore i am more for city maps, with tight alleys, mazes of streets, taller buildings and especially the access to buildings, ladders and stairwells that Rhino is striving to include in one of the maps for v0.7 that you guys will see make a lot of good gameplay situations.
