vehicle gunners not scary enough?
Vehicle gunners in PR dont really last that long as there always picked off without fail, partly becasue the gunner's head is poking out the top of the gun asking to be blasted off, when you press the C button behind a 50 cal your character model should duck behind the bullet shield and not be so easily killed. I think this is sort of important as heavy guns and jeeps should be dangerous and not an easy target, if you hear a vehicle gun you always see soldiers rushing towards them to get an easy kill, Light AT should be the primary concern for vehicles not rifle bullets.

The best example would be the British landrover - it's actually represented fine. The problems are that the viewdistance and lack of optics on the modelled 50 cal means that the weapon is never acting at its optimal range (600m+) where it simply outranges assault rifles. That and the fact that for people with high fps and the non-existance of any form of rifle sway, it's all too easy to pixel shoot a target's head at any distance.

Jack-in-the-box rifleman > anything that isn't entirely covered.
IIRC there should be added deviation and longer settle times for ARs in 0.7 and beyond, so that'll help alieveate this problem.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

its because the jeeps in PR always end up surrounded because they just drive straight in, if they only had enemies infront of them the jeep can lay down suppressive fire long enough for the infantry to gain a better position, no one is gonna stick their head up to take down a jeep if he is spraying a million bullets at the wall your ducking behind

jeep guns can be awesome, if the jeep doesnt stop.
you can lay down fairly impressive supressing fire, if not to kill but just to avoid the jeep being shot up, a good synergy between the driver and the gunner over voip can make the jeep genuinely deadly.
They are dynamic and swift, something rare in pr on most maps, but they are often just considered taxis.
In general, the vehicles need more armor against small arms, surely the cars used are bullet proofed more? sniping drivers feels stupid (obviously its fine when you do that to an insurgent car)

Drivebys are awesome. Back when we had that parachute spawn map I would rush to one of the Land Rovers and force two other unfortunate souls to accompany me on the mounted machine guns. We would then to proceed to drive at high speed around the map, past the T-90 and over unwary enemy infantry. Our little processions used to always be stopped by an RPG rocket.Heliocentric wrote:jeep guns can be awesome, if the jeep doesnt stop.

The fact that every rifleman in PR is a sniper doesnt help, as others have said. The fact that your gun doesnt sway and the bullet goes right where you aim doesnt help in any way. But at the same time, adding the deviation while your barrel appears to be stationary could prove to be equally as annoying, but I think people will eventually get the hang of it.
Id also be for no zoom on non optics weapons (even if it is to make up for pixelization/real FOV problems) Real or not, it would decrease the incredibly effective range of a standard m16 to more of what it should be... thats all imho by the way

I agree completely about the deviation. Yes it's true that when you shoot the M16 even at longer distances, it's still within its maximum effective range... however the farther a target is the more chances there should be that you'll miss. Unfortunately you can only aim by pixel, which means you can't make tiny tiny tiny adjustments... in which case the best solution is the most simple... increase deviation.
I don't know how deviation in BF2 engine works, but I think there should be cases when you do get 1 shot 1 kill at a distance, to signify a lucky shot.
Short distances should be as is though.
