I plan to give the FAQ an overhaul - need feedback

Post by Safekeeper »

I've taken it upon myself to clean up the Project Reality FAQ page in the Guide. I want to divide the questions into sub-sections like 'Installation', 'CTD', 'Infantry', 'Vehicles', 'Commander' and so on, and I want to re-phrase the questions so that they're worded the way they are in-game, when asked by the beginners. Not to patronize them, but because this will make it easier to search for answers to questions. For example, 'where is the designated supply zone?' is heard far more often than 'where can I request kits?'.

I think I'll also remove and/or merge some redundant questions - 'where have my crosshairs and weapon display gone', 'where is my health indicator', and 'What has happened to my HUD' shouldn't be three different questions - a simple entry explaining all these would be far better. I'm not sure if questions like 'why do I die so quickly' and 'what's with the long spawn times' are really necessary either. I find it fairly self-explanatory that this is a realism mod and that you should therefore not be surprised to find these features. Asking questions like the above is in my eyes akin to asking 'why is this a realism mod?'.

I'll also add a 'further reading' link to each question, for then to have the answer provide the basics and give the user the option to dig deeper if he wants to.

I'm not making major changes to an important article without feedback, even though changes can easily be reverted, so please see my current draft at my user page to get an idea of what I'm thinking about format- and wording-wise. Also comment on the ideas in this post. Thank you.

Sounds good. The only way to improve those would be to have them actually there, so I say go ahead and commit whatever changes you want to make.
