LMG's in Two Weapon Slots

Post by nedlands1 »

I have an idea of how to implement more realistic LMG bipods and I know how to code it. Each LMG would be set up as two weapons with shared ammo (ObjectTemplate.ammo.magLinkWeapon) and with their own characteristics. One slot would be for the "deployed" version of the LMG. The other slot would be for the "undeployed" version. Characteristics as follows:

"Deployed" version
  • Draw Time: Long (Time = Current LMG's)
  • Zoom Time: Long (Time = Current LMG's)
  • Fire Stance: Prone (like the current 50 cal sniper rifles)
  • Recoil: Very Low (Amount < Current LMG's)
  • Deviation: Low (Amount = Current LMG's)
  • Animation: Current LMG's
"Undeployed" version
  • Draw Time: Medium (Assault Rifles < Time < Current LMG's)
  • Zoom Time: Medium (Assault Rifles < Time < Current LMG's)
  • Fire Stance: All
  • Recoil: High (Amount > Assault Rifles)
  • Deviation: Medium (Amount = Assault Rifles)
  • Animation: Current LMG's without deploying the bipod)

Got too admit, that's some good thinking. Hopefully the Devs will use it.

With the new accuracy increase time aswell, hopefully it can be applied too each weapon, although I have a sneaky feeling that the current ammo count won't be transfered over. Although if the change time is longer than the reload time it's not much of an issue.

If you even know the coding, that can be a green sign! Well done! (Go and help the DEVs now! :) ) I hope they don't have anything else in their mind that crosses this idea!

Problem is that this requires new animations and possible models (for the "undeployed" weapons). Both of which I can't help with really.

I like it. Make it alot more closer to reality. And maybe the recoil of deployed should be lower then undeployed.

The DEVs have already thought of this and the problem with it stems from not being able to make two different weapons(as that is what they would effectively be) share the same ammo counter. It'd be odd if you fired a whole 200round clip from an M429 bi pod, then stood up and ripped off another 200rounds without even blinking.

EDIT: APPARENTLY, i stand corrected as i have been informed that it is possible to link two separate weapon ammo counts. The concept has already been suggested yes, but apparently the method itself has not been.

this idea was thought of even before I joined the dev team back in v0.2 arounds, the biggest problem with it is that you will get 2 rifles, each with there own sets of ammo that you can not link which is really a show stopper for this idea, locked.

and the mag link weapon only works on vehicles.

EDIT: ok had 3 pms on this, so going to put it in here so i dont keep on getting spammed...

egor confirmed to me it is possible to link mags with hand weapons, but there was a problem with the saw having too many mags from it which we could not overcome or something like that. best to ask him if you really want to know...
