That is incorrect.Cravixon wrote:As we all know, all the AA missiles in PR are IR based.
For instance, the Tunguska fires the 9M311 (SA-19) missile, which uses the radar of its launch vehicle for tracking.
(I know your response, and to that response I say that I view flares as a representation of any type of countermeasure)

So the Tunguska, R77, and Type 95 are the only systems in game that use radar guidance, while the rest use infrared. I think given that the majority of the AA systems are infrared the tone should be triggered by missile launch, as above. Since there are only two target object types this is a broad categorization of the missiles, but they're already broadly categorized, and badly.

there should still be a warning of an incoming missile even from hand held AAjayceon515 wrote:After the missile is fired you wouldn't even have a chance to deploy flares since the speed of the missile is so high. I say remove the lock-on warning from handheld AA weapons and keep the warning for mobile AA assets if it is possible.

cas117 posted this in some other thread but seems it would help here
'[R-CON wrote:caboose;535503']*sigh* no the F-16, F-18, F-15 and most choppers have IR launch warning receivers. Just a quick generalization: while IR tracking systems don't "emit" any kind of radiation per se, IR band radiation is significantly shorter than most radar mounted systems, meaning a fairly close range launch. This means that if a plane is in range of a IR guided SAM, the launch the launch is very likely in range of the aircrafts detection systems (which are usually significantly more sensitive than most surface launched SAMs). Missile launches are not exactly a subtle procedure in any case. So no as they are missile lock warnings are not realistic. Missile launch warnings are however.
Some reading if you're interested.

At least what I know many choppers irl constantly drop single flairs to avoid lock ons by any type of missiles. I think that at least the transport chopers should have this constant flare-dropping as its very hard to do an missile-avoiding movement if a missile is detected with them, they are just too big and slow.
My vote for shorter reload time for the flares too
