Getting around the hard-coding wall

Post by ir0n_ma1den »

For Thanksgiving, my parents had a bunch of family and friends over for the holidays. One of them happens to have a PhD in computer sciences (coding, etc, etc). I was talking to him about computers, random things, and PR. I asked if you can get around hard coded things and he said that he has done it twice for an assignment. So, is it a question of "can we do it" or a question of "how much trouble can we get into"?
If we could do it, im pretty sure he would be willing to do it.

A buttload. The EULA you signed when you installed BF 2 makes it a breach of contract to reverse engineer the engine in such a way, and if you do you will get sued and promptly lose a lot of money to the rich owners of EA, and their scum sucking lawyers.
