custom weapon kits?

Post by Raymond.Reiloff »

Do the US army or USMC, both soon to be represented in PR have the option IRL to customize their weapon and /or setup?
ex. 1 can they choose between actuall rifles? models?
2 who gets the 203 :D
3 scopes?
4 sidearms, who gets em?

You play too much America's Army men, IRL they have access to all SOPMOD kit, but it will be LONG LONG LONG but VERY long to model all variants possible.

modeling all those things would be a complete nightmare. Maybe if the DEV team gets increased by lets say 200 ppl then maybe.

Erm, no, SOCOM has access to SOPMOD kit. The SO in SOPMOD and SOCOM stand for the same thing.

IRL, who gets what is largely based on the role. the team grenadier (Team leader in USMC, PFC, LCpl or Cpl/Specialist in Army) has the 203.

In the Army, everyone in combat units has either a M68 CCO, EoTech, or ACOG. In the Marines, its almost exclusively ACOGs with a few ironsights thrown in, along with a lot of handgrips and PEQ-2s.

As for Sidearms, traditionally Officers, Senior Noncoms, some team leaders, and pilots and some Machinegunners receive sidearms. No need for a sidearm if you have a M4.

AFAIK Marines are typically issued M16A4 with Rail hand guards, a fore grip, a AN/PEQ-2 and ACOG.

Edit: ops, didnt see vipers post.

I'd like to see options also. Not fully custom but say in the tree of choices, have two choices for each class but no choices for the pickup.

Say for engineer, an option between an iron sight M4 and a shotgun. They are usually in vehicles or at least around them and get CQB weapons. Give the M4 an iron sight so that it's not overly attractive to noobs. You could handicap it a bit more by having the M4 the three round burst model.

For a rifleman, the option between an M-16 with an ACOG or a sight with 2x zoom. Not much you can really mess with there. It's a good class and does what it's intended to do. Maybe give one type of rifleman his claymore back? Anyone else have an idea that could be done go ahead and elaborate.

Spec Ops, as an idea would have two types. The shooters and the sabatours. Give the shooters M4's with a lazer sight maybe even with silencers plus a pistol and no armour so that they are still easily wiped out if they go Rambo. They would keep the weak slams and have 2 grenades. For the sabatour they get no silencer and have an iron sight on their M4. They still get two grenades and again no armour so they can be wiped out quickly if they get stupid. In place of a slam they get two blocks of C4 so they can finally do what Spec Ops does. There could finally be a special forces squad that does what it is supposed to do. Get in quick blow shit up and take off.

Officer, they've got it right on but I say give an officer the choice of an M4, they are an officer after all and get more liberties than a regular grunt.

Edit//

Viper, from what I understand most of those Acogs are bought on their own. On a military board I go onto one of the Officers allowed one of his guys who is an avid hunter use his hunting scope. From what I understand a lot of the aftermarket stuff is purchased on their own or by family. In fact again on that board there was a SOCOM guy (not soldier he was back office stuff) who's son was about to go to Iraq so he was on the board asking about sights and dragonskin which is banned by the Army. It seems the army does not like you using unapproved body armour... He didn't care and was going to ensure his boy had the best he could get his hands on and was asking other guys their opinions.

M4's and sidearms, you can always use a sidearm and anyone who can afford them will get one. Two things, ammo runs out and rifles jam, it's bound to happen every now and then and it sure is comforting to have that just in case weapon.

They have acces to it, and they can buy mod by themself. Every thing to be a better Killing Machine.

No. They have access to limited parts of it which arent as much part of the SOPMOD kit as regular accessories. These include M68 CCOs, Trijicon ACOGs, and 203s. They dont get access to all teh 1337 stuff. WRT the comment on Dragonskin, it doesnt work quite as well in the field as it does in tests IIRC.

Infantry soldier are not allowed to pick and choose what goes on their weapon. Even how items are mounted on the weapon is often dictated by the company commander or even higher.

Sometimes i wish PR moved to Crysis, But not everyone can run it so maybe just move to the demo that way we can save 50$ and get a good 7-series or x19xx for that price on ebay.

Yeah I'm sure he'll elaborate more than I can but to the extent of my knowledge US soldiers currently must wear their issued (interceptoer) body armor. If they don't and they get killed/injured, they or their family won't get financial benifits afterwards.

I think he was talking about the weapons, you can add and remove scopes and stuff in crysis. But of course only this thing is not worth moddeling everything again for the new engine.

i have read some thing about dragon skin and army test... i think its because DS dont resist good to fuel, sun, sand exposure for long time... or something like that. BTW they just need 7.62 and AK47 proof vest... i dont think a more powerfull proof vest is possible anyway.

RPG shrapnel, nade shrapnel, and IED shrapnel also tend to be helpful. SVD proof as well.
