more gunship helicopters

Post by charliegrs »

ive started to notice thats theres really not too many maps i see being played that have gunship helicopters. i really dont get it. i see maps with tons of armor and no real way to get any true air support.and i see maps with transport choppers, and the little scout choppers, which are pretty useless against armor, like in kashan 64. even now basrah no longer has an gunship. i know alot of people think "omg a gunship would be just be overly Ub3r PwNaG3!!11!" or they think it will throw it out of balance or something. i really dont get that argument. 1 chopper on each side is not gonna make a huge difference. plus gunships can be targetted by the anti-air kit, which means people might actually use it for once. i always relish the chance to help my squad buddies out with my cobra but its a chance i rarely get and i really miss it. is there any chance of getting more gunships in the upcoming maps?

um, when they can kill a tank or AAV from out side fog radius and scooting off out of lock distance while still killing you? how do you counter that?

all it means is two people can sit there and camp an enermys main base and win the round for there team
so when you start making it able for a few 733t gamers make battles unwinable it will turn it in to is wake island vanilla.
so fine with the maps with attack hellys but dont put them in more

For one AA doesnt really stand a chance against a good flight crew and when the HAT kit is more effective at downing choppers than the AA kit there is a problem. A gunship chopper can deploy their flares and run off before you can get a second lock so I dont think any one is missing them on maps. The BF2 engine is really horrible when its comes to air because of the limits of view distance. If it had ARMA distance views there wouldnt be much of an issue but BF engine gets pwned badly in that department. The view distance I think is a little over a mile and that is nothing when you factor in air assets. Its a flaw that we have all have come to terms with although there moments were I wished for more. But Ill take these views over vanilla any day. Thank you PR mods you are demi-gods

The attack choppers on daqing oilfields has to go, the map is less than 2x2 km and the AAV has a 1 km lock radius and once 0.7 with improved AA comes it will be impossible to dodge the missiles on that map.

I say; only have gun ships on 4x4 km or larger maps

Hopefully, come 0.7, many of the AA problems that plague us now will be gone.

Additionally, helicopter combat will hopefully be very different from what it is now.

are not hellys made for hilly terrain where they can pop up from behind cover

Not for Basrah though a few of the new maps set for 0.7 will have them. Expect big changes as far as how they work as well....

i cant wait to see more chopper maps.. and for those that think that choppers are 'Ub3r PwNaG3!!11!' well if you know how to deal with them they are not that hard to take down especially with the new AA systems in 0.7..

i hope that the reload time for flares are faster...

Yep I agree, the hellfire/tv missile can destroy everything in 1 hit from 1000m away, its probably for the best if the Apache is fairly rare.
Its rarely used properly though, every time you see the heli attacking with hydras (it takes 22 to kill a tank) please tell them they are nupptys

No, helicopters are now the Uber pwnage in PR.
To obtain semi-invulnerability, all you need to do is fly at 600m, firing AGMs at the poor creatures below.
The ones you destroy in a pub match are those that are careless.

An experienced AA crew (im talking two Tunguskas, with engineer+support truck support) will have nothing on an experienced Atk chpr crew(Ah-64, gunner+plt with somewhere to re-arm).
With speed, striking force, striking range, 3D maneuverability and the element of surprise, they hold the advantage.
Fixed wing SHOULD have the advantage over rotary in range and speed, but they dont, atm.

The only equal the an attack helicopter, atm, is another attack helicopter. Deal with it.

All you need to take down a chopter on Kashan is a HAT guy in the middle of the desert. Chopters are not overpowered
Never argue with an idiot, he will just drag you down to his level and beat you by experience ;)

Well, yeah they are. But they are IRL too lulz.

This is what i mean though.
I can fly at 650m in the air and all i got to do is have my gunner look straight down and he can very easily plaster a HAT squad and various other targets, since they have to worry about other stuff like Tanks, snipers, INF, and EVERYTHING that can deal damage, causing them not to look up 24/7.
You cant hear the copters (though i wish you could :( ) at ranges at about 400m so you wont get an early warning to impending doom.
And there really aint much cover on Kashan specifically.

The piss easy out of AA missiles is to 'cloaking method'. Being relatively high up, the enemy locks onto you with an AA weapon.
You begin to fly away, wait JUST before the enemy has a lock, pop flares and then DIVE WITH THE FLARES, keeping them between you and the suspected direction of Lock (or just close by is usually gd enough), getting tremendous speed and darting for homebase, keeping below mountain ranges that are not likely to get you sniped by a tank.

You must realise in not saying 'I Pwn', but these tactics are effective, risk reductive and realistic and IMO = what I like to call a Pwnzer_Faust.
