This is from the Latest issue of Vanity Fair and I have to say it is a must read for all those who haven't been there.
It's an article about the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan and it says much that people need to understand about the war.

Very interesting article!
Anthony Lloyd, himself a former soldier in the British army and a Northern Ireland and Gulf War veteran:
"The men inside (the APC) might have been UN but they were playing by a completely different set of rules. They were Swedes; in terms of individual intelligence, integrity and single-mindedness I was to find them among the most impressive soldiers I had ever encountered. In Vares their moment had come."

Most impressed by Aaron Hijar's comment- "If people like him don't sign up, everyone his age will be subject to the draft".
“I find it odd that an airborne-qualified soldier jumps five feet and breaks his ankle,” a soldier named Tanner Stichter comments.<--I found that pretty entertaining.
I like that he points out that the insurgents have all of the advantages, and yet US forces are still gaining the trust of the locals.
I definitely think this is a good map idea.
