The BF2 engine does not have a dynamic lighting effect in it. So those types of things like Flashlights, Headlights, and other things dont work.

NVG does not work as it does in movies, you would not scream in agony: "MY EEEEEYES" just because someone pointed a flashlight towards you.
sector7g wrote:How ever I think it would add a nice X - files atmosphere to the map if you could locate enemy by watching for light beams in the dark woods !
Which is why you would never ever use a flashlight in that kind of situation/enviroment, you become to easy to locate....

Nor do NVG's make that annoying "peuuuuuwe" start up noise. Man I hate that!

Yeah, as has been said, dynamic lighting isn't possible with the BF2 engine.

However, on a more positive note, the crash a lot of people were getting when loading Bi Ming has been fixed (so night maps are truely back on the cards! :D )

The map has also undergone a lot of revisions for the next version, both asthetic (no more crazy white smoke, no fuzziness in the NVG's etc etc) and in terms of gameplay (flags are no longer grouped so it acts like AASv1, taking one flag at a time in order, so in the 64 player version the stalemate between the two central flags should be erradicated etc etc).

Personally,I think the map is a flop, for the only night map PR has,it's not played nearly at all...Still,Basrah at night, everyone would love...But I don't care,PR is still great!

the reason why the map is at the moment hardly played is cos of the CTD issue when loading it from a fresh map. Hence why hardly any servers run it cos they dont want new players connecting to there server to CTD, and most ppl who load the map are at that time off for the night or w/e so in fact very few times do you ever see it come up. Its a really good and fun map all the same, and with the CTD issues out the way I see it getting played a hell of alot more in the future :D

No need to be a ****..

Excellent news that Bi Ming is fixed. Night maps are going to be awesome!

BF2 engine sucks more and more every day. Have the devs thought about switching engines because anything seems better right now. Maybe 2142 or even 1942 is a better option for me. Im sure someone has commented on this so you dont really have to answer but go ahead.

BF2 is by far the best engine for us at the moment it is sorry to say. You are not going to find things like integrated VOIP, Squad System, 64 or more players in 1 server, large scale maps, all kinds of vehicles etc in just any old engine.

1942:
Too outdated, BF2 has better graphics and is a better engine for PR (don't mention l33t roping or anything like that :p )

2142:
This IS the BF2 engine with some changes. Not really necessary to switch to, simply NOT worth the effort

Others:
At the moment there are no better engines that can offer the same as the BF2 one. Sure, COD4 is beautiful, but it sucks if you want to build PR on it :s. Same goes for a whole bunch of other engines.

We've always said the BF2 engine is shitty at times. But who would've thought we would be able to actually build and deploy stuff, have huge maps, way better graphics, etc?

Let's stick with BF2 :) .

About Bi Ming: awesome! I've had some pretty decent rounds on that map. People don't like it 'cause it's harder to play. You can't go Rambo-ing around, stealth movement is the way! Get used to it, I'd say :) .

OMFG your joking right? i think Bi-Ming is possibly THE most immersive map in the collection!!!!!!. I think with the event of the map crashing, now fixed, its going to be played a lot more. Great work on that devs.

As for Torches on weapons LOL!.., how about a huge neon sign above the player saying SHOOT ME! IM HERE! hehehe.

Increased muzzle flash would be good though.., although i dont know how realistic that is or if its even possible.

Umm, I think Rhino was referring to .613, not 0.7, since I noticed, that people don't CTD much on Bi Ming.

Also, why does everyone keep saying on the boards, that night maps would be awesome, then you hear people whining in-game 'omg, too dark' 'why can't I see' 'dis sux, everything is green' etc.
