Air maps?
Now im a big flyboy and love to fly. So while playing El Al on the gloryhounds test server it came to me... Why dont we have any air only maps. Now by air only i mean only airplanes.
Now i think that it should be a masive desert map with two main airfield. Now the flags will be in the air like in the heliwars map but with a massive capture radius. There should be lots of canyons so that planes can fly through them. Now it think that there should be no anti air, exept maybe at the main bases...
So thats my idea what do you guys think?

sounds fun to me, i fly interception roles most of the time. would be nice to
play a map where pilots go against each other rather than bombing all day.
that might wanna wait after patch 1.2 though, since one of the reason of the low rate of air dogfight engagement is due to the relatively ineffective missiles.
out of 10 air kills i make 8 of them would be with guns, and till they fix the missiles, air maps would end up with everyone flying around firing sporadically with more ppl getting hit by stray missiles than anything else.

Royal Green Jackets- Britains premier infantry regiment

Air force definition of explosives: A loud noise followed by the sudden going away of what was once there a second ago.
Retreating?! Hell no, we're just attacking the other direction!

Although personally I think BF2 is HIGHLY unsuitable for air (jet) combat. The planes are just too fast. Maybe a clean 4x4km map with 1km view distance, but even that will probably turn out feeling cramped.

If someone makes an air map, I could easily fix thatZepheris Casull wrote:sounds fun to me, i fly interception roles most of the time. would be nice to

oh hell yeah, an air only map would be awesome, when the el alamein maps comes up, im always in da F-18 or Mig-29 shootin down opposition, and bombing a couple of vehicles.
If the 1.2 patch fixes the A to A missiles that would be awesome, as Zepheris Casull said, most of my kills in Van BF2 are from my guns but in PRMM my kills are mostly from missiles, improving them would be great.
And perhaps also finding a way to actually look around , or at least just behind you would be great

This map is called "Aerial Combat".
Not sure if it's helos or aircraft as well. It's not quite what you are saying... but in the general ballpark. Could take a look at it for a future map pack.

One thought .. make sure to have a couple AA stations on the carriers for those of us who suck at flying
You could consider having a single island with a small facility, including AA, and a single flag. Throw in some helos and boats and it would greatly broaden the appeal to folks who don't (can't) fly and lend some dimension of "purpose" to the air war.
I kinda liked the paradrop stuff from BF42 and like what's on Heli Wars.
Not saying to make a ground war element so significant that it detracts from the goal of an air war focussed map, but the PR population is pretty small. If a map is *purely* limited to people who fly... it's a possibility that every time that map comes up in rotation only the 40% of the (already small) server population that can and wants to fly will play it.
Just trying to throw in some ideas that could broaden play without detracting from a very cool idea for "jet jockeys".

lol I can imagine having good pilots on one side and the enemy capture that one flag, the small little island would be bombed to hell.eggman wrote: You could consider having a single island with a small facility, including AA, and a single flag. even on el alamein, vehicles dont last too long
Now, in my opinion, for a map the could appeal to the pilots(such as my self) and the people that give me easy kills
Then on that small island, it should be completely indoors as to protect the helpless ground troops, so it would require a bit of modeling.
To prevent the paradrop CPs from being SF only perhaps you can make it so that with that CP all classes get a 1 time use parachute
