Suppressive fire
Does anyone think it works/ Uses it? And are there any plans to make it feel more dangerous or (i can't find the right word)anxious to be shot at?

well my favorite kit is the support kit so i definitly try to do suppressive fire as best i can but i just dont think it works as well in PR as in real life. it seems like everytime i do it, its just like a flashing sign that shows where i am and always somebody gets a bead on me from out of nowhere and kills me. but i do it anyway sometimes it works especially on massed enemies. 3 round bursts are a must if you plan on actually hitting anything.
known in-game as BOOMSNAPP

Well it depends on the situation, but it's useless most of the time... I mean, with scoped assault rifles you have no chance as support gunner. Scope/ironsights sway would fix this and make the Mod more realistic aswell.Oldirti wrote:Does anyone think it works/ Uses it? Sway is not an option due to the engine I believe.
But suppressive fire for short periods is effective.
I duck when bullets come whistling by and I assume many others do as well.
But if you are just sitting still and pounding out rounds then of course they will find you and kill you.
But if a squad leapfrogs forward using suppressive fire the enemy is more likely to take cover initially allowing you to advance through their defenses.
Even 2 or 3 guys can use it but as mentioned, due to the optics on many other weapons it is not effective at long range.

And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.

the thing is that suppresive fire isn't scary enough.
Its so easy to just bide your time and shoot the guy with the SAW in the face when he's shooting over your head (and missing). Its real easy to take the SAW guy out. Its only appropriate when you really do fear for your life so your too scared to peek over your cover to take a shot at the guy.

When a SAW gunner starts suppressing the enemy,it gives the riflemen an advantage to get in position and take the enemy troops out. They can't react, as they are busy spreading out and running away. After all, the support gunner is suppressing them not killing them, so nothing wrong here.Ghost1800 wrote:So they aren't really afraid of the support gunner, they're afraid of the guys that come with the support gunner? Something is wrong here.

Thats me and my support gunner inside north bridge bunker (western side) on OGT we were raking the ground back and forth n side to side.
Watching the battle rec back we were holding down a squad of 5, forcing them onto their beltbuckles to crawl through the bamboo and hide behind the tanktraps.
Can you see the rest of my squad?
Further north picking off the slow moving soldiers crawling underneath the suppressive fire.
As you can see heskey has also got some fire on the bridge, another avenue being closed off, only to get through is an apc, but then I'll just being in my H-AT and give him cover fire while he destroys it
Heskey is very profficient with the support gun and theres some very good guides on here for it, I personally try to always have a support gunner in my squad heres some tips that seem effective

- Find the direction your squad will need support from, If you know there are hostiles there but you dont know where, pick out locations they can be, and suppress
- Fire in bursts to save ammo and increase accuracy
- The goal of support is never to rack up kills, but to hold down the enemy and cause fear to run out into the open road, pop your head into the window so that your squad can move into a more advantagous position or take out the enemy themselves
- As a support gunner listen closely to your SL as hell tell you (if hes good) where he needs to move and where he needs the cover
- Keep an eye on where the medic is, as support you'll be getting shot at a lot and being wounded is likely
- Try to move far ahead/second in line so you can get down and cover your squad getting into formation at first contact of a hostile
- When in the jungle lying down and firing 1/2 feet above the ground will keep the heads of your enemy to the floor
- Raking the ground with support fire in certain places can act as a barrier and funnell enemy forces where you want them to be
- Never be far from cover, as support youre the loudest flashiest gun there, the enemy is drawn to you straight away
- In Urban warfare the support gun can be used to close off entire streets, doorways and intersections.
- Communicate with your squad to let them know how the enemy is reacting to your suppression, and locations they can attack from etc
- communicate with your squad and SL so that you know where they need you to suppress from
- In jungle warfare support gunners need to try to create a cieling (about 3ft above ground) to hold the enemy down, this allows riflemen to pick them off at a distance. If done right you'll also make the enemy dazed from the bullets flying so close.
- (Jungle warfare) if you have the enemy pinned or 2 support gunners, rake the ground. Not only does the sound of the bullets hitting the floor freak one out but often youll get lucky if youve pinned the enemy down in the right location.
- (Urban warfare) Since there's no grass for the enemy to hide in, you want to concentrate more on hiding in cover and closing doors/archways/windows and also to hold back behind youre forces to cover their advance
- If the medic needs to revive people, cover him! he needs your help as he is vulnerable when healing and reviving the fallen
