P.R.M. on Unreal Engine 3

Post by Hotrod525 »

Hi i was reading an article talking about Frontline Fuel Of War and he's mod tool... it will allow every thing possible to do for mod-dev... it can be interesting whit all restriction applied on BF2 engine...

FD: Yes, we have an amazing mod suite. We're using Unreal Engine 3 for Frontlines, and everything we use will be 100 percent available to the public. We pretty much use Unreal Engine and then tools--there are some tools for Maya and Max. We've heavily modified the engine for the large-scale openness, but everything we use is going to be available, so the cool thing is not only can they make multiplayer maps, but they can make single-player maps, vehicles, weapons, and everything we've done.

I think it's been stated a couple of times that PR isn't looking into switching engines just yet. Although BF2 engine has a lot of limitations, it still has some life in it to be squeezed dry. For all we know the newly announced BF3 engine could be a better fit for PR.

So is an engine change possible?

I think were all agreed that there's a lot of people involved in the PR community who would follow it anywhere and personally I think it's worth a lot of money to whoever makes the game (engine) that we move to :P

PR for everything!

If anything an engine shift would just give the devs more tools to exploit and create and even bigger better world for our accurately depicted warfare.

But of course not yet, I think 1.0 will have enough people in the PR community and enough life squeezed from the BF2 engine, AND enough people will be sufficiently upgraded to completely support a shift to a new gaming engine. Like I say if I was that gaming publisher, I'd be handing the devs a big bag of moolah to move themselves and their community to my game engine :P

I actually think the BF2 engine is better suited for PR then other engines, BF2 allows for massive battlefields and a fairly nice vehicle system/flight engine.
sure it can't handle fast roping, but really how many engines can do EVERYTHING the PR team wants.

No other engine has Combined Arms, VOIP squad based combat, with fairly decent map sizes.

(Arma is excluded, it is a sim = less combat)

UE3.0 can do more than BF2 engine... about the Frostbite engine it will be awesome...on my PlayStation3...DICE didnot confirm any PC version using it... may be in a near future... Battlefield "Next Gen"

Its not even finished for the BF2 engine, there is no need to plan a move so soon. In the future it might be quite neat, but the devs have done a buttload of work on this engine, and I'm sure they would like to see it come to fruition.

Unreal engine is bad. I rather see PR in the crysis engine, much more dynamic.

hmm if the devs made their own engine and sold PR for money.

But on a serious matter the bf2 engine is good enough for now. I would like to see PR change to the BF3 engine when it comes out though.
