I was pondering away and I thought why dont we have some sort of mine laying vehicle. Then I read up on it and it seems we dont have them anymore so...

First quick suggestions, mines dissappear faaaar to quickly, personally I think they should stay the whole round, but the should defineately be there longer than they are. also, more mines able to be deployed per engineer plz if possible :)

Mine scattering vehicles :P . Now I know youre thinking this is open to huge exploitation (of course with 400 mines it would :P )

Also is it possible to deploy mines from an arty strike?

With the right balance of mines and the right spread radius and reload time and ammo limit I think this can work very well, especially if the mines are sinkable and the engineers have mine detectors.

So long as you cant have enough ammo to constantly take the piss with the mines, it would be great to see certain map sections closed off due to a minefield being cleared by engineers.

This of course means more work for map designers :P meaning less natural bottlenecks. it would help do two things:

1. effectively close off avenues of attacks for armour vehicles, forcing them into a different location
2. add an element of fear, providing the mines are spread right. Imagine if you run over a single mine, experience will tell you that you may well be in the middle of a huge artillery deployed minefield, tread careful and get the engineer out in front ;)

fear is something hard to recreate in PR and this I believe is a way we can get an element of it back from the mines.

Make them sinkable, give us mine detectors (and flags dammit!) and if not by arty then some limited means of deployble large amounts of them PRETTTY PLEEEASE :P without sinkable mines and the dissappear times, mines are a joke atm, and normally a lucky one off.

A single mine should stop an armoured column in its tracks, and your m8 blowing up in front of you should make you terrified to move.

Ohhhh cant wait to be the engineer crawling trying to clear mines :P would rule if they can do this

P.S. someone teach me coding so I can stop Dev's pulling their hair out with suggestions before 0.7 is released :lol:

I want Butterfly mines like mines that you don't have to place you just but a butterfly mine crate down and detonate it and it disperses mines every where,

anything, that can lay us a minefield :D

If posible we should only be able to have 1/2 at a time depending on map size. as I keep saying, would loooove that effect of the APC being hit with a mine and being the engineer hopping out to clear a way.
Another small point, what about damage damage reduction on the mines? unless you get a good hit dont they tend to damage the tank?
or perhaps SLAMS can be made so they can be used against tanks more effectively like irl.

In short the effect were after is running over a mine, not wanting to move unless you have a spotter up ahead or an engineer clearing the way for you. and needing an engineer to pick his way slowly through the minefield to get to repair your vehicle.

I don't know about them disappearing, aren't they there to stay the whole time even if you die or change kit, that's my experience at least. About sinkable mines I don't know, I just saw a clip for a BF2 mod where they sank into the ground but thats just unreal to sink down into the concrete. There is mines where you can put in the wood area where you dig I'm down, those can be more usefully.
If you want to set more mines put a RP e.g. and have your squad mine the close by area, usefully on Mestia.

Yes dude I know how to put a minefield down at the moment, but its unrealistic to have the mines sat on the surface, it creates no fear or tension being able to see a big square metal box They do Start to dissappear after a rather short amount of time considering until recently people were still being blown up by WW2 mines.

If the mines are made to last longer and sink to perhaps only show a tiny trigger, then maybe it would be worthwhile to get the engineers to lay down a mindefield, currently it's pointless.
Like I stated earlier a common way now the deploy a large effective minefield is by artillery shells, also helicopters spreading devices like the butterfly.

i agree with the minefield laying and that the mines should stay the whole round and barley be visible. But i've never heard of mine laying artillery.

the thing is that with any kind of mine dispenser (from aircraft/helicopters, with arty, basically anything except engineers putting them) the mines do not sink under the ground. They aren't magical mines that dig themselves a hole and jump into it and then cover themselves so they become hidden. Instead like any other object that is dropped onto ground they stay ontop the ground.

So what you are suggesting wouldn't really be realistic. There is no way to effectively deploy a large, hidden minefield in a short perioid of time.

A "minefield arty" wouldn't be a bad idea, but those mines need to be clearly visible. And as for mines which sink under the ground, well like I said in the other threat it would be cool is engineers could have those.

well the minefield arty isusually used on runways, and sort of burys the mines underground.

Its hard to find decent info on mine laying artillery but from what I gather the shell explodes above ground, small explosive charges are released before about 400 mini mines, the explosives blow a small hole to which the mines are shot into afterwards like bullets, so they do become quite effectly dug in a visible pit, but as explosions and dirt is messy. out of 400 mines youll probably find quite a sufficient amount underground. and as a sapper youre going to see a lot of lil craters, and know theres gna be a lot of mines, but where exactly?

No I'm not suggesting having 400 mines released :P but you see my point

Even so, mine laying via artillery is very rare. I like the idea of a minefield, just not one deployed via arty. Helicopters deploying minefield above ground area good idea, as this allows players to create a bottleneck in game without dealing with a lot of complicated issues.

In example, a player in a mine equipped UH-60 flies out and drops a minefield along a main road. Several minutes later up comes an enemy tank/ truck. The driver sees the mines, and must either detour around them or send out an engineer to disarm them all and continue along the route he is taking. Deploy enough mines and he is forced to have someone disarm them.

I don't want to see mine spamming, but I think minefield are a good idea.

You can take a couple of engineers in a transport heli and drop the mines from the heli , they just need to sit on the side/back doors of the heli and not inside (they will be auto reloading the mines because transport heli gives ammo).

Dude this aint metal gear solid. We dont have stealth mines I'm afraid.


You'll find there's also a fine tenchnique to mine laying with regards to density formation and types of mines used, often by the time you see, or are hit by a mine, you're in the middle of the field, and a wee bit buggered...

Also two types of friendly flags/markers to locate the position of enemy mines and secretly mark the location of friendly minefields for your forces. A skill is minelayers will leave tiny clues that friendlies will easily recognise but the enemy will find hard, someway of incooperating this would be good, but I doubt it'll work.

SINKABLE MINES!!!!
