messed up textures (infinite displayed)

Post by Papst »

Hi there,

since 1 and a half year i was able to play and enjoy battlefield 2 and this great mod but since a week or so i noticed some very annoying texture bugs.

(I seacherd for it but due to the lack of not being able to properly discribe it or even have a name for it i wasn't able to fix it)

So if anybody has got a link or a tip to "let them go away" (sorry for my bad english) please post it.

My specs are:
amd 3000+ 64
1gb ram
ati 9600 pro (drivers are up to date)

in game settings
antialaising disabled
800*600
textures high
rest middle

some reference pics of this bug (they seem to "grow", they get more every minute)

yep my guess too.
i had the same problem with my old radeon 9800 pro. the cooler ball race was damaged, resulting in a overheated gpu.

either it´s the graphic card (most likely), but it could also be ram - though gpu is much more likely

edit: can you tell wether your graphic card has gotten louder (the cooler), or if its generally quite loud? that might be a sign that the ball race is damaged - of course, no sound at all would be bad too (--> cooler not working at all)

It should. Although it's possible that the fan is malfunctioning.
Just try to clean the card first and then you'll see.

it could, but most likely you´ll need either a new cooler or a new card.
loud sounds mean that the ball bearing is screwed, ergo the fan is rotating slower, that should be what causes your card to overheat.

i suggest, that either you´ll get a new video card, something that suits your cpu a bit better (seeing as the 9600 is quite outdated^^), i propose nothing expensive, that wouldn´t pay off without a whole new computer, but well, at least a 9800pro, perhaps even better - or, you buy a new cooler, which includes also a new heatsink, that should cost about 20$ (mine for my old radeon9800pro was 20€, so perhaps you have to pay even less, depending on where you live^^).

try looking here: http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga1.php but judging from a first glimpse, they appear to have discontinued the 9600 cooler series (though it should be possible to still buy one, try your local dealer)

hm...well it isn´t exactly easy on hardware ressources - but it might be able that your ram is damaged/gets too hot too, it could explain the symptoms, but it seems much less likely.

if possible, try to borrow a video card from a friend of yours (something with the same or more power) and see if the errors still occur, preferable an ati card (so that you can use your old drivers)

Problem seems to be solved!

what have i done:

-cleaned my video card cooler
-(perhaps the most important)
if you have a 9X00 card from ati running with the latest drivers, then the agp speed of the card is set by 8x. That may cause overheating in your and my card. So if you have problems just set the agp speed in your ati catalyst control center under smart guard to 4x and all should work fine (or at least better) again. ;-)
