[Question] Pixel Bleed.?

Post by MadTommy »

Hi.. i'm try my hand at some texture work.. looking at the Eurofighter.

On creating some decals, i'm getting some bad pixel 'bleed'.
As seen here below.

I've noticed EA original decal had the same problem. And it might be why they did not have the white between the red and blue.

Is this a know issue?

I'm gonna work on some different techniques to see if i can stop this happening.

Any tips on creating crisp decals would be appreciated..

depends on how the object has been unwraped, what gfx settings you have got and how many mip maps you saved with. My guess is that its just been a stretched unwrap.

.. I'm using the unwraped dds file from EA as my template.

In game setting are set to Medium, no AA, 1280x1024 (75hz).. i believe.

I'm using the autogenerate MIPS. (MIPS are new to me.. but the option to generate MIPS when saving seemed to work ok.)

I'm assuming this bleed is some pixel strech, (as you say)...

Many other marking i have done have no bleed. The color combination of the red white and blue is definatly either causing or highlinghting this problem.

(EDIT: I can run at High, 4AA etc.. which i'll test.. but i dont think it will make any difference.)

ye, its not often you will find anything using a 1:1 or less match with the scale to model, as the texture size would just be bigger than it needs to be.

EDIT: oh i see what you are on about now, the red bleeding into the blue? dunno about that...

Might be .dds artifacts. Atleast that yellowish and blueish blocks in the second pic are. Not sure about the first one because it looks so pronounced.

But anyways... Its good to keep in mind that dds is a lossy file format. Textures look real nasty upclose especially if you save the same file multiple times.

Theres not really much you can do about it.
Always edit and save from lossless format to avoid more artifacts. Also cleaning up the dice's textures before you resave helps a little. The artifacts are mostly visible in high contrast areas so keep an eye on those.

Sweet, eurofighter.

Whilst we're on the subject, what happened to the tornado?
