There is a radius in which you get a bonus for being near the Squad leader, which also promotes Teamwork. My suggestion is that on the minimap/map you see that radius on your SL. To go hand-in-hand with that, the CP's should also have this, so you know if you're actually inside the cap/defend radius.

Sounds good. The only problem I can see is one time on mestia we were capping a flag and I told someone to run over and give defence to the other flag... he trundles off, I check the map hes still here. "dude go back and defend now! theyre probably already there, I need you there when we cap this!" "Ohhh I'm just waiting for my points..." Screw your points soldier

I see that in Crysis you get a little indicator on your HUD when a grenade comes your way. I think this idea is in the same league. If anything, focus needs to be put on "eyes and ears" situational awareness through going back to the basics, not more gizmos. I think v0.7 will be a whole lot closer to this with the overhaul of the spotting system.

Less HUD is the way to go. If you're working as a squad should properly there will be no problems with the 50m distance. A flag cap distance on the map would be a bit lame and just reduce the realism of the maps. The goal is to eventually come out with realistic topographical maps, so anything to make the maps less realistic seems counterproductive to me.
