[Map Idea] Operation Mjolnir
TLDR Version: I have a map idea, but I don't have the skill necessary to do it yet. When I get proficient enough, would the map be good enough to become worthy of my time?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Map Title: Operation Mjolnir
Factions: US Army vs. PLA
Short Summary: In their bid to strengthen their naval forces for a possible move against Taiwan, the PLA has commandeered a US nuclear-powered carrier and brought it to dry-dock for research and eventual rechristening. Now, the 82nd Paratroopers of the US Army are being deployed by C-130 to reclaim the carrier and clear the surrounding area in the largest HALO operation in history - Operation Mjolnir.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The concept of a static C-130 spawn point has been mentioned numerous times before, but rarely put into practice - it would fit perfectly here.
The map would be balanced to favor the PLA heavily in armored support, but the main objective - the carrier itself - would not be accessible to armor. For this reason, the vehicle advantage afforded the PLA early on does little once the carrier is captured by the US, as it can easily be defended from infantry and would be inaccessible to vehicles.
After the Carrier falls, a Chinese ticket bleed would begin, forcing the team to focus on crushing the Carrier defense swiftly while minimizing careless deaths. The entire map is a King of the Hill-style race for the carrier; if the US is not fast enough, Chinese armor will crush its tiny armored cavalry element. If the Chinese cannot divert their attention to infantry combat and capture the carrier, tickets will be depleted.
Asset Overview
US Army: 1 Abrams, 2 APCs, 4 HMMWVs, 2 non-respawning Little Birds
PLA 5 tanks, 4 APCs, 4 cars, 2 transport helos
Flags
Staging Area: US flag, can be captured. Not easily defended, but stocked with some vehicles deployed ahead of time. Little Birds may or may not work, cannot be determined until map is created/tested.
Carrier: The carrier and the building surrounding it. PLA flag (not spawn), can be captured. The Carrier flag cannot be compromised by vehicles, making an organized and fast infantry insertion necessary to capture the area before Chinese armor thunders in. Easily defended by a decent team.
Forward Base: PLA uncap and the source of all Chinese vehicle support. The base is quite far from the Carrier, but not so far that the Chinese cannot stop the US in time to defend Carrier.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't possess the skill to map this at the moment, but I'm learning quickly at the moment. This poses the question: would this idea be worth the time and effort involved?

more tanks for the army. hmm a halo jump eh.
some nice airborne assets would be nice(airdroped strykers or somthing)
balance out the vehicles maybe a larget attack helo on both sides?
hmm
ac130
carrier
staging area(REPLACE) WITH DROP ZONE. maybe thers a way you set up a usa only capable flag. and it would drop airborne assets tot eh battlefield. un capable by china. since its a "drop zone" you cant really cap land that stuff is falling on
give china a forward bunker instead of that one base. more fire fighting room other wise you get spawn killed.
naval landing as well?
what you could do
seals halo jump(along with us army 82nd airborne)
maybe soem marines in lav25 assault the beach
and some army strykers dropped in witha tank or two.
maybe you have just the army and seals to make the level creation easier. all depends. intersting concept. just make the ac130 out of range to be spawn attacked. (like uh siomone just shoots rockets at it or somthing
also make it SINGLEPLAYER USABLE.

Mora, two things prevent the "SEARCH NOOB!!!" effect from hampering the map's development: I never demanded a special kit (just the C-130 spawn that would work in theory), and the Staging Area could become a simple designer RP if the C-130 idea falls through.
Spartan, you seem to have missed some of the key logistics problems, even if some of your suggestions are great. I like the idea of giving the Chinese a forward bunker, but a beach landing with LAVs and RIBs would be out of the question, as it's meant to be a swift and crippling airborne operation. That's where the title comes from - Mjolnir is the hammer of Thor. Likewise, this operation is the hammer of the US offensive in China.

HALO jumping, and Mjolnir armour I think is worn by a certain special spartan, someone's been hitting the xbox a little too hard...

How does this add anything informative to the thread? "HALO" in this sense stands for High Altitude, Low Opening - a parachute drop. Mjolnir is the hammer of the Norse god Thor, which I've already explained. It has nothing to do with your favorite cyborg.Jedimushroom wrote:HALO jumping, and Mjolnir armour I think is worn by a certain special spartan, someone's been hitting the xbox a little too hard...
Now, why can't you guys just focus on posting something helpful instead of nitpicking on the smallest things?
