Free look

Post by Scarlet_Pimp »

Anyone remember operation flashpoint, in that game as infantry you could hold down alt and turn your head in any direction whilst keeping your gun and momentum aimed forward. I wonder if this is possible in PR, I know in the aircraft you can hold control to free look, can this be implemented for infantry. It would really help situational awareness; you can be running to cover whilst checking the areas to your flank for enemies?

I do believe its been brought up before , but i did a serch and nothing came up so heres the answer - It can't be done , one of the DEV's said the BF2 engine just isn't made to be able to do that kind of stuff..

Great Idea though ! its unfortunate the BF2 engine is very basic..

Anxiety out.

I think there is no actual use for it? If you want to look somewhere else, just point at it with your gun. And in Vehicles you have freelook anyway, so, might be a bit useless?

Well, someone said leaning is possible, but you'd need to animate the head and that can only be done, if you remove another animation first or something like that.

I've never understood the point of free look. Use the strafe keys to keep going in one direction while you turn your aim. If you want it while sprinting, think about how much you move your head while you're at a dead sprint with a pack on your back and a gun in your hands. Not much.

In summary, free look is for noobs.

In Armed Assault and Operation Flashpoint, where the OP got the idea from, strafing is much slower than running (like it should be), so turning the head is necessary there.

Is free look really necessary?

I don't see much of a point to it.

That's freelook in vehicles.
We're talking about freelook for infantry.

I love TrackIR :P

In PR dont see the point of infantry free look but I would like more free look as the co pilot of helicopters like the merlin and such.

At the moment I'm sat as a co pilot in the merlin opening and closing a door (mainly for fun...) while the pilot attempts to land in thick trees while unable to see bugger all.

Would bring some excellent teamwork if co pilots of the big transport choppers could look around to spot the infantry needing exraction and call out landing spots to the pilot

Why not just turn your gun. if you see something you can kill it. Just its becoming a unneeded thing. Kets see 0.7 then lets make new suggestions.

Read the whole post, "I love track IR" is a statement not a continued wittering on off topic on something that can't be implemented in PR.

The OP is talking about free look, not trackIR. The thread is carrying on quite nicely discussing the benefits and draw backs of free look. So don't try to bring down other folks suggestions, t'aint nice.
(and the obvious "point your gun at it!" which dosn't apply in all aspects)

I'd like to see more freedom of view inside apcs and such. At the moment it feels like someone has your head clamped in place. Even if we can just see someone else on our left and right as we look, so at least we can see we aren't alone with clamped heads :P

Also how about a very limited free look while ducking on a 50. cal? I'd imagine if I was crouched down I might just be able to peek a lil bit left and right...
