well if its not in the manual then you can be pretty sure its not in the game...

I'm very interested in this as well Markonymous, I'd like to think we'd be able to go over some of the finer points as a community before final release and have some influence but it's doubtful (logistically). Other than that it's hard to speculate without playing it for sometime. I do think attack choppers should be able to:markonymous wrote:my biggest question right now is why the DEVs are killing off the choppers. i mean with this new system their dead. im just gonna say it out right i think this was a crappy idea and id rather have the tv-guided missiles then this.
i agree with all of that.VipersGhost wrote:I'm very interested in this as well Markonymous, I'd like to think we'd be able to go over some of the finer points as a community before final release and have some influence but it's doubtful (logistically). Other than that it's hard to speculate without playing it for sometime. I do think attack choppers should be able to:
1 - Engage known, moving targets both manually and guided at 1km effectively. This isn't a big stretch imo, no chopper should have be snuggling up to a tank 400-500 meters out, consistently.
2 - Engage moving targets at 1km range without needing near perfect hovering. (This concerns the stabilization issues)
In my respectful opinion it's important for attack helicopters to be able to engage at longer ranges otherwise the gameplay surrounding them will most likely degenerate into swooping/strafing/unrealistic chopper play just to stay alive.
Gone will be the tactical menuevering behind hills, popping up to blast spotted targets and supporting armor from behind them or on their deep flanks. There very well could be a lot more of tanks shooting at heli's trying to get that nice hover just to get a good shot off, needlessly.
I think we've upped the AA systems to provide for realistic chopper effectivity and hope that we haven't chopped off the long arm of justice that is the 7km ranged hellfire. (Though for balancing 1km kills seem fine)
btw the new laser system does look cool, I like being able to move the camera around for aiming in tight spots.

well the thing is that attack choppers are used in conventional warfare. You have to remember the attack choppers have jamming devices that can stop lock-on and they hide behind the tree line 7 km away just pop up fire the missiles and all AAs plus tanks are dead. AAs dont stand a chance the choppers never get close enough.Farks wrote:Project Reality is mostly conventional military v.s conventional military, and all sides have modern equipment (more or less). In real life, attack helicopters wouldn't be used that much in a war against a conventional, modern, well equiped military, since that means they have modern AA. And, like I said, modern AA would rip any helicopter into pieces if they had a visual. So fixed-wing airsupport would be preferable. The only reason to why NATO is using attack helos in Iraq/Afghanistan/whatever is because the enemy don't have any modern AA. And still, the insurgents manages to take down choppers. I think I read somewhere that the demand on attack helos will decrease a lot in the coming 50 years, unless some kind of new technology against SAMs are developed (but that's still not stopping AAA).

Modern AA missiles locks on the targets radar echo, and then stays locked on that specific echo, so jam devices or decoys won't do much good. And there's nothing to stop AAA.markonymous wrote:well the thing is that attack choppers are used in conventional warfare. emp would stop it very effectivly though it would stop anything electronic. But the jamming device does work since it makes the radar unable to identify targets. And if they didnt work many more helicopters/airplanes would have been shot down during desert storm.Farks wrote:Modern AA missiles locks on the targets radar echo, and then stays locked on that specific echo, so jam devices or decoys won't do much good.
