Hey all,
I did a brief search but found nothing on this particular topic.
So, I play vbf on low everything. I'm running a 3200 with a 7800GTX but get a smoother game with all on low (bar geometry and texture shading on high).
What I also get is an increased vision ability whereby the potential threat of enemies in the shadows is removed.
I run the same settings on the bfpro ladder mod for GA matches and am now doing the same in PR.
Watching a friend play on full, it's obvious that the game is more attractive that way, but I'm far more into gameplay than graphics. Being able to see the enemy is much more important than admiring the sunlight dappled across the gun barrel as it shoots at me.
So, I now intentionally run it on low essentially because it gives me an edge.
What are your opinions on this? I don't see it as very ethical, but also figure why should someone running a computer that isn't able of turning the graphics up be able to see me sans shadows?
Should it be coded into PR (just like the first bfpro mod) that you can only run it with a minimum of medium across all graphical settings?
I'm torn. I think I'll try the graphics up tonight just so I don't ignore all the hardwork the devs have put into making it so purdy.
While I'm here, can someone please link me to the "0.7 coming soon" sig I've seen around so I can wear it at other forums? Thank you.
Love PR, best game I've ever played. I hope you guys land a pro-paying gig soon (or just make us all pay for release 2.0, I'll give you my $100AUS).
Cheers,

I run the game at full settings. I don't need to mess with my graphics settings to have an advantage against other players. Hell, I'm at a huge disadvantage because my fps isn't as good as I'd like it to be.
Sure gameplay is more important than graphics. But gameplay (at least to me) is mostly about communication in your squad. That's what makes this game so awesome. I don't care if I don't see a single enemy during the whole round, I can still have fun playing with my friends.
I recommend you try running it on high. Looks so much better.

I run it on high it looks amazing, and it doesn't bear any effect on my skill levels compared to playing on low.

Smeg: Fuzz commands a lot and promotes good teamwork, db flips vehicles, Bosco is an all-round nub, Outlawz is an SP whore, Nickbond is a friggin ninja and Rhino gets kicked for being a n00b.

Currently I have to run on medium terrain and the rest low... in 1280x1024
Sometimes yes it does give you an edge but I would MUCH RATHER play on high settings.
I'm upgrading to a new computer and I will be running on high with all the grass loaded - Thats the only thing you need to know about PR that isn't written, what grass is cover and what isn't
OGT is a good example, when on the hill west of south bunker the grass disappears eventually..
Right now I get 15-20 FPS in jungles and like 20 in cities, I can't wait to run it on high with either the same FPS or higher FPS, I don't care about the advantage, I want to see the game with its lighting effects on ( medium lighting ruins my FPS to like less than 10 on my old computer )

That's the thing though, until you've tried lowered graphic you have no idea how it affects things.Nickbond592 wrote:I run it on high it looks amazing, and it doesn't bear any effect on my skill levels compared to playing on low.
Try this, load up vanilla beef and play Sharqi. Head to construction flag and try a battle there. Now drop graphics to low and try it again, the visibility is SO much better.
On PR it means that hostiles stick out like dogs balls in the deepest of shadows so that even on a quick sweep you can quickly see the danger. On high, that same sweep will return poor results and you'll wind up dead. This is why on infantry maps I do so well (that and the whole aiming/movement/predictive-routes things).
But I really want it to look pretty. I'm so torn. If it were coded in I wouldn't have this internal conflict.

the thing is when i play PR i play it with friends on TS, there is a constant flow of information between us, enemy positions, possible enemy positions, other threats and POI. I have no need for my game to look like a bag of sh*t when it runs perfectly well on All high as my ability to spot and be told about threats is greater than ever.
i have 20-20 vision and can spot target's out very quickly regardless of their location helped of course by the fact they are probably moving or shooting or at least making a noise.('i need ammo' 'requesting a pickup' etc.)
Pr is a LOT more tactical than a Kark infantry gather i know as i've done it and on low settings as you have, on Pr you move slow most of the time, survey what lies ahead and think the situation through, generally speaking if you stay still you win the confrontation. Pr also has a lot more long range fights and with the limits of the BF2 engine infantry stick out like a sore thumb anyway at range and Tanks arnt the smallest of things to hide into the background

You've got to think about what the best gaming experience for you is - A lush realistic experience where you can enjoy simply existing in an environment (Ever looked at the sky and treetops of Seven Gates on full graphics?) or beating people through exploiting degraded visuals.
Personally I'd go for the lush gaming environment every time, not only is it pretty, but in PR your surroundings constantly add to gameplay. Give it a shot, not only is it better on your eyes, but you'd also learn how easy it is to spot people even in the darkest of shadows.
We all do a good job of it.
Turn those graphics up! It's how it's meant to be done =D

Okay, ran it last night with most things on high and some on medium (and no AA as it spanks my card) and I must say it's well worth it.
Still maintained the same kdr, the same usefulness to the team but it just looked a whole lot prettier.
My advice to all bf2 IO players, crank the graphics for PR. It won't hurt!
