I heard that you get funky results with 1680x1050. Things like stubby objects from far away and binocs 2D picture is cropped horizontally. Good news is that with that resolution you can pretty much play with any ratio and have good results. Just set to what your comfortable with.jOHNNYdOUBE wrote: True is 1680 by 1050. i played on the 1400 X whatever resolution. just set it to 1680 x 1050 then, o.k. THANKS.

17" CRT (not widescreen)
1280x960 resolution
WORKS

(normal)

(16:9 ratio)
On a personal note, I'm not sure how I feel about this program. It looks like a cheat. It FEELS like a cheat. It's a 3rd party program that drastically increases what you can see in-game and is a HUGE advantage over those who are playing without it.
Edit:
Fixed my previous hotkey problem.

I tried it last night. Started on Kashan with an empty server.
shortcut had 1680 x 1050. Was o.k. Had it running as a low priority on processor 2. Went to Fools road and It slowly degraded my Fps so I closed It after trying it as a high priority. After that, fools road was a fps nitemare and i lowed my mipmap and aliasing to the lowest.
I have a pentuim4 HT 3.ghz , 3ghz , 3g ram 512 ati 3870, Fata1ty pro with 64mb ram. xp pro.,and 22" Samsumg syncmaster 226bw
My question is.
What does it make the display?1680 x 1050 or 1028 x 1024 res.?
And now when i open widescreefixer it is cut off and I cannot access the bottom of the window, it is v 1.39.2.
What priorty do I set it.
bf2.exe is on cpu0 high, widescreen.exe was on cpu1 below normal.
It worked awesome on Kashan and I believe that Fools road is the ultimate test for a videocard anyways.
Umm. I dont know, i would like to use it but it made my eyes hurt last nite with the stutter?
Any recomendations?
*edit* just found v1.40 .gonna try again. what ms setting is the best? i tried 1ms and 4ms.

I'm not so sure you really lose the DOF. Lets say you have a widescreen monitor already ok. Now you probably have the +widescreen +1680 +1050 in your shortcut so you cab play BF2 in psudeo-widescreen. Well, when you do this it actually chops off some of the lower and top of the screen...then fits in the existing image so it looks like you are playing widescreen....but really you have just zoomed you image in a bit iirc. Using the fix negates this and zooms you back out to the normal DOF.

I'm thinking on getting myself a widescreen 19 incher that runs at 1440 x 900. I play PR alot and I was wondering how if you people with the widescreens can tell me if its worth it. So far, I haven't seen any screens with streched sights since nobody posted those. Also, have people using this program been getting issues from punkbuster?

Wide screen works perfect and I couldn't go back to square.. I've got a 22" WS, also the WS fixer works perfectly and it makes the game soooo much better IMO.... and no there is no probs with PB.

I use it everytime....no problems at all. Its awesome for sure, why only go 19? You should be able to get at least a 22 for 280-300.LeoBloom. wrote:I'm thinking on getting myself a widescreen 19 incher that runs at 1440 x 900. I don't think the BF2 engine employs DOF (Depth of Field) beyond anything more than the psudo-DOF blurry back sights on some of the guns in game. Perhaps you were referring to FOV (Field of View)?VipersGhost wrote:I'm not so sure you really lose the DOF. Lets say you have a widescreen monitor already ok. Using the fix negates this and zooms you back out to the normal DOF.
The problem is EA/DICE (whichever one) decided to take away widescreen user's advantage over those with regular aspect ratio (4:3) by locking the base horizontal FOV (lets for example say it is 90 degrees since I don't know the exact number). The vertical FOV will be adjusted automatically to some ratio of that horizontal FOV proper for a 4:3 resolution.
The problem now arises when you attempt to run resolutions that have a wider aspect than 4:3. Since the horizontal FOV (the width in degrees in which you are able to see the rendered world) is capped to it's max (lets again say 90 degrees of vision) the game has to compensate for the shorter/wider aspect resolution by adjusting the vertical FOV so that the horizontal/vertical FOV aspect will match that of the resolution being rendered at, this of course results in less viewable area at any one time at the top and bottom of your vision in game. This is also called 'vert -' on some wide screen gaming sites.
This widescreen fixer compensates for this problem by raising the max horizontal FOV cap just enough (relative to what aspect ratio you told it you are running your game at) so that your vertical FOV is back to what a 4:3 ratio user would get in game. This of course gives the effect of a slightly more zoomed out image as you are now seeing a greater area at any one time (which is why you got the widescreen monitor in the first place). This is referred to as 'hor +' and is the preferred way most gamers want their games to handle widescreen resolutions.

Dude I would NOT use anything other than the version known to be supported by BF2 and PB...and that is version 1.32. It works fine and is widely known to be solid. Anything other than that and you are going out on a limb I think.Symplify wrote:I have a 1440x900 widescreen, and I have to use somthing like 1184x800 (or whatever BF2's max is) and this could be awesome to have. I downloaded the 1.40 program, how do I activate it?

Exactly. v1.32 is the only one I think EvenBalance has confirmed shouldn't trigger PB, none of the newer versions I don't think have been throughly tested by EvenBalance and can't be guaranteed to not trigger PB into thinking you are using a hack and kicking/banning you.VipersGhost wrote:Dude I would NOT use anything other than the version known to be supported by BF2 and PB...and that is version 1.32. I myself use v1.32 on my XP installation of PR with no problems (have not had a chance to test it on Vista yet).

I'd like to point out to all of you, that the widescreenfixer IS CONSIDERED A HACK by eb & pb. Just because the widescreenfixerguy says its safe doesn't mean it is. Never was a 3rd party program accepted and never will. You can find a full explanation here:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... post527060
The reason why noone gets kicked for it is, that about 95% of the servers THINK they have pb set up correctly, but they've not and it's simply not working.

Hack (hak) noun.DenniZ-NL wrote:Why should this be considered a hack?

Is widescreenfixer a modification to an existing program? Yes.
Does widescreenfixer grant additional abilities? Yes.
Do users of widescreenfixer gain an advantage over other users? Yes.
People don't consider widescreenfixer to be a hack because it fills up the left and right edges of their widescreen monitors, making the screen look pretty. Seems harmless enough, but the bottom line is that it allows an greater field of view that wasn't intended with the original game. And you don't need a widescreen monitor to use this program; it works just as well with a regular "box" style screen.
So I ask...
What would be the difference if the program allowed an even wider field of view? What if you could look 180 degrees? 260? 360? Clearly a 360 view would be hacking, but that's the point. ANY field of view increase beyond the original program is a HACK, regardless of how it justifies your purchase of a widescreen monitor.
