Set up your mic

Post by Darksyde024 »

Now that our gameplay depends almost entirely on communication using VOIP, i wanted to create a thread to help people set up there MIC's.

Half the time i cant hear you guys because you dont have your mic's boosted or set to proper levels.

One tip i have for you is to look in your control panel folder and toggle the mic setting under your sounds folder. many times its under recording and set to very low.

I find that I need to turn the game sounds down to about 45% if I want to hear someone clearly using a correctly configured non-clipping mic setting, that 20db boost usually ends up with me muting the player tbh as 9 times out of 10 it's just a distorted mess..

Everyone tells me my mic is quiet in game and often they cant even hear me, I tried using the sound recorder on windows and it comes out pretty clear and loud so I'm thinking the problem is BF2.

Yes, set up your mic and find a different kashan desert 24/7 server. =WTF= Is always full and VOIP never works.

If your mic is too low, don't forget to turn on the Mic boost in Windows sound settings.

To do so go to sound settings (double click the speaker icon in tray - next to clock), settings (or however it's called - it's the first tab from left), click on Advanced (2nd from top) and now Properties (1st from top). Select recording, press OK, click Advanced (or however is the button under the volume scroll called) under the Microphone. Now tick MIC boost.

BTW, to all those that don't yet have a mic, you don't necessarily buy a new headset or something. Just buy an independent mic and your good to go. ATM I'm using a 2€ mic because my better one broke. And the cheap mic works just fine.

I use a £4 head-set from Tesco that's stood me in good stead for the last 3 years - The microphone on it comes across more clear than these £50 'gaming' headsets. The only let down really is the headphones themselves - But what can you expect for £4?

Go into sound manager, mute the microphone and turn soundboost on.

Unmuting my microphone causes constant feedback. (I must emphasise; muting your mic in this way doesn't actually mute it - Just mutes the feedback.)

For the record, setting up a mic in Vista can be quite challenging. Also, Vista and BF2 interact in some way that makes my mic not work at all in BF2.

But its just fine in TS. Screw you DICE.
