Transport Chopper Guns - Squad Requirement
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/showpo ... stcount=38
The idea came from this post, and so I thought I'd make it an official suggestion.
As many dedicated transport chopper pilots know, it is severely annoying when we come across possibly 50 individuals each day who think they're having fun blasting away aimlessly on the chopper guns, but for that 50 individuals is one single pilot, resulting in one hell of a headache, many crashes due to typing at them to shut up, and many shot downs due to enemies following tracer fire.
Would it be possible to make the gun-seats Same-Squad Requirement? People would be able to sit in them, but not fire the guns unless they're in the same squad; this allows the pilot to communicate with the immediate crew, and tell them when and when not to open fire. (If I'm flying behind the dam, towards West Al Burj from West Beach; I REALLY don't want the chopper firing at anything. Even if it's infront of them and they can kill it.)
This would also allow transport choppers to choose two things:
1.) A gun-crew for assault and defense.
2.) MORE transport, and silence.
If this was brought in, I would be MUCH more inclined to take a crew of 2 men to man the guns, and whatever else I can get in the back.
Good idea?

Trouble is, you'd then have 3 of the 8 seats onboard usually not-available for passengers.
You'd effectively render three of the four heavy transport birds useless for picking up an entire squad with; you're always going to leave some guy behind when you've got two gunners on board.
Unlesssss....
Maybe, just maybe, you could sit in the *seat* if you're *not* in the same squad, but only be able to *fire* the weapons if you *are* in the same squad? Guessing this is h-worded tho'.
Personally I prefer to fly without anybody in the co-seat, unless it's a lil bird being used solely to spot targets for tanks (in which case a SL in the front is vital). It means that when the inevtiable crashes occur, there's only one guy's life wasted (unless it's with a squad on board), and I feel less guilty lol.

Could a Dev comment on this please, as towards whether it's a good idea, bad idea, being looked into, or hardcoded?
Brief re-cap of original suggestion: Transport Chopper Gun-seats are crewable by anyone, but only operational to squad members in the same squad as the pilot, to prevent aimless shooting, pilot headache, ammunition wasting, giving away position, ruining a tactical drop off.

I know, my squad member in the Linebacker shot down a friendly Blackhawk on Kashan after some jackass constantly fired the minigun at his vehicle and my tank and almost TK'd my engineer, thinking this is Black Hawk Down or something. So yeah they are frigging annoying.Deadfast wrote:The shooting is not only annoying for the pilots, but also for the regular infantrymen.
Yesterday on Kashan, I got blasted by a noob firing the goddamn minigun when a chopper was taking off and I was so unlucky to stand nearby.

Question ?
Can the devs modify the miniguns on the blackhawk to do less LINE shots, means make a little more spread of the bullets...
Topic.......i played yesterday kashan...was in a blackhawk, crewmembes...and the other crewmember was so anoyng....... :
first zzzzzzzz, and then the tracers followed...no wonder the AA shot us down...

Course it's a big deal. You're basically saying "one guy's usually elsewhere, so we'll MAKE you have one guy off elsewhere whenever you want to use a chopper to get to your objective".Death_dx wrote:I made a good suggestion!!
Yeah, but about the 5 man troop transport..would it be that big a deal? I mean usually one guy is wanking off somewhere by himself anyway.
Why let the game be ruled by the lowest common factor?

Agreed it is soooo annoying for everyone involved.
it makes main bases constantly loud and annoying, players shooting away for no reason on the guns. ive been killed or injured MANY times by these retarded players...
on top of that it kills transports cause there is ALWAYS that annoying blue guy sitting in the gun who will never get out
my idea was to just remove the side guns on the transport choppers, cause they are not that useful anyways.

You have to admit, some kind of pilot-operated eject button would be *far* funnier[R-DEV]fuzzhead wrote:my idea was to just remove the side guns on the transport choppers, cause they are not that useful anyways.
Joking aside, have you any idea if Hesky's idea is possible or not? Believe it or not I've found that actually a well-timed burst from a well-behaved door gunner can be pretty useful at times, especially if the squad you're picking up have told a few lies about how safe the EZ is.
On top of that, there's the bonus of having something you can defend yourself with against the light attack choppers; pulling back hard on the stick and pushing your tail around to put a chasing littlebird onto one of your quarters whilst your gunner lights him up can make an inexperienced pilots panic and crash, and present more experienced pilots with enough of a challenge that they back off and try again from further away - giving you more time to evade in whilst calling for someone to jump on the AAA at main base.
Very little beats watching a prepared AAA gun knocking a persuing chopper out of the sky

The Merlins are often equipped with a cabin-mounted GPMG (M240B). If the Chinook gets put in by Icekiller (I think) I know that the RAF Chinooks have two M134 miniguns/M60Ds in the port and starboard windows. The rear ramp can have an M134 minigun/M60D mounted on to it, although not necessarily (and would be overkill imo).agentscar wrote:I wish the Merlin would get something as a window/door gunner mounted weapon.Whether it be an M249 SAW,MG4,M240,M60E4,or Minigun...Just somthing.

I love it when i get into a transport chopper with my cousin, me as pilot and him as gunner/Crew cheif. Not done it for ages but i'd like to see the door guns get a buff so you can transport a squad in and the crew cheif can provide them with some effective cover.
It is annying having people randomly blasting or playing "tunes" on the guns a pilot operated safty on/off button would be the ideal solution.
The Merlin should deffinatly get a couple of machine guns, since it has removable windows where machine guns can be mounted.
