Allow Tank Commanders to Laser Designate

I was gunning a tank in Kashan last night and we had an organised air squad on our side and we agreed it would be great if tank commanders could laser designate for the attack jets. As the commanders view is higher than the gunners there were times he could see a tank clearly but I didn't have a shot, it would have been great if we could have marked it for the attack jet and not have to move from out relativly safe spot to engage it.

Also I recently talked with a British Army tank operator about the main gun on the Challenger 2 being ugraded from rifled to smoothbore. I was told the biggest advantage with the smoothbore over rifled was that they would be able to fire guided muniations.

Maybe when we get to Version 1.0 the upgrade will be complete and we can have a few guided HEAT and AP rounds.

Wait rifled barrels are less advanced than smoothbore ones? What is this, history in reverse?

In response to your suggestion I agree totally, it would encourage better teamwork between armour and aircraft, that and the 'infra red' vision is pointless.

I like, would be nice if the gunner could see the same laser designate, in case VOIP fails or something.

Original smoothbore rifles had short accuracy and range because the projectile was round and spun at random.

Rifled barrels "spun" the round to increase the projectile's stability and thus giving it more range and accuracy.

Today, smoothbore rifles are now more accurate and longer range than rifled barells due to the projectiles now having stabilizer fins. They can also fire a wider variety of shells, and the barrels themselves are easier to produce and maintain, making smoothbarrel rifles the latest in technology and the primary choice for the M1A2 Abrams.

I totally agree as well. Make it part of the "thermal" imaging? At least that mode would have two purposes instead of one... a range finder AND laser designation.
