Squad indicator arrows: Increase the range

Post by Wolfe »

WARNING:
This is a thread about the green 3D squad member locater arrows, NOT about the removal of the minimap. Please limit the discussion to the appropriate topic.

The green 3D squad member indicator arrows could use their range increased just a bit. Too often I find myself standing near my squad members, then several of us move a few feet to gain a better firing position, then suddenly the 3D icons disappear and your squad's location is a mystery. The only way back is to take out the M map, and I find myself doing this far more often than should be necessary.

I'm not sure what the range should be, but something more than the current 10-15 meters would be good. This might go a LONG way towards helping squad stick together without constant confusion, and reduce the number of complaints about the removal of the minimap (which I totally agree with btw). This also would help with the location of wounded squad mates as they call for a medic.

What do you think? Increase the range? If so, how far?

I second this for sure. It only helps cohesive squads and doesn't ruin any of the good stuff that 0.7 has brought while at the same time increases your Situational Awareness of your squad mates...thus reducing some unnecessary confusion.

I also support this idea, on the same basis that Wolfe pointed out (pulling out the map too much), perhaps the distance that the nametags of the squad members showing up should atmost be 30m.

I support this as well. This is the most logical solution to the squad cohesion problem and probably the quickest and easiest. This will also finally shut up the minimap rebirth supporters as that is their best argument and after this quick fix they no longer have a good reason to "try" and bring it back.

Yeah I definitely agree with this.

I totally agree. With the lack of a minimap, it's hard to tell where your squad and teammates are. Consider the name tags like one of those IR beacons that are put on coalition vehicles and equipment.

I agree. This will help simulate some peripheral vision, and keep players from having to keep pinwheeling around to find their squadmates.

Is it a range issue? I've had the markers vanish for no apparent reason, also the SL order markers vanish too, like a move to order is on screen then after "something" it vanishes and I can't get back unless the SL gives a new order.

I've had squad members less than 30m from me with no marker and squad members over 30m with a marker and.. well I don't know what range they start or stop at, but I can't see anything logical too it.

Hit your Alt key. It's the "show tags" key or something and makes these things hidden or shown.

We are also talking about the 3D pointers that show up on your screen at any given time. They look like green arrows and they point to where your SM are according to your position. The tags over head could also use a little increase but not much, say 10 m.

Yes! No more need to be said.

Well actually...

This would also counter the argument for bringing back the minimap that many people give, saying that people should have more awareness of where their squad is. 1 less reason to have it back.

100m is too far imo. I say that 50m would be good enough.

50m is way too far (100m is a joke). your squad shouldnt be getting that far apart from each other and if they do, they deserve to be lost. i think 20-25m would be perfect. you shouldnt get much further apart than that unless you're on a task, in which case the rest of your squad should know your general location via VOIP.

we really only need this so people dont dissappear when going over a hilltop or around a wall. this should be a tool to *help* keep line-of-sight on your guys, not replace the need for LOS.
