The M24
OMG it is inaccurate. Against the SVD, which is pretty dam accurate in the game AND you can pop off so many rounds. Im a good sniper, and im a sniper in the USMC, and in real life the M24 PWN's the SVD. I hope 0.3 will make it more accurate. Does anyone else feel this way?

Every other USMC weapon is better than their MEC counterpart. I wish the weapons we're a little more balanced (although it works pretty well as it is).
As for snipers, I think they're *arguably* a bunch of useless tits. It's really not the way to go about taking out enemies in PRMM, but rather squad play, a base of fire and flanking. Sometimes, if every sniper on the team were a medic or support guy, we'd be a damn good team.
It's fine as it is, I think-- people should learn to play other classes.
This is one of the first games where I've seen suppressing fire actually be effective-- take advantage of that.
I realize that the whole idea of being a sniper is romantic and such, but look what you see when you "find the best hiding place" (on top the crane)-- you see 10 other snipers.
Snipers are only really good in urban situations, and even then. I love gunning those distinct, furry ******** down!

We are really having issues with the sniper class. When we increase the accuracy back to as it was, you could take somone off form the other side of the map easily. We nerfed the snipers dramatically until we could come up with a viable solution, and we are hoping to have one for 0.3. But do not worry, they have been brought back up to par, and will be "useable" in the next release.

Usually. But if you use the kit right, as a squad-level marksman (this is how the SVD is supposed to be used) instead of the lone-wolf sniper/fanboy that most use it as, one can be a good addition to a squad. Use the marksman to spot out enemy positions, and to help take out people in tough spots that are going to give your guys grief. If they're used in a support role, instead of all alone, they can do handy things like kill spec-ops before they can blow up a friendly tank with C4....EON_MagicMan wrote: As for snipers, I think they're *arguably* a bunch of useless tits.
The useless tits are the players, not the kit... unfortunately, that kit tends to attract that type.

I dont think thats true. In PRMM me and my friend held off 2 squads of people, and allowed 2 of our squads to advance and take 2 bridges. It was on strike of karkand 2. That was the first time in a game that i actually felt like i was fighting a war game. THANK U PRMM. I dont play vanilla BF2 anymore.

I agree that the SVD should be used as the support guy for squads and you become more of a marksman than an actual sniper. It work well. Just kinda stay behind you squadmates and call out targets and take out prime targets. "Prime" targets are medics, LMG guys, other snipers.
With the issue of the M24, its not great, but usable. If they improved the accuracy just bit, no much as ive heard alot of people say. See the m24 is a powerful rifle take 1-2 shots to kill someone. The SVD is not as powerful but you is is semi-automatic so you can get off alot of shots quickly.
Snipers that stay back are not "tits". If they stay too far back from the fighting ok their not doing a good job as a sniper. If your team has a good sniper that is fairly close to the fighting, that calls out everything they see, and take shots a "Prime" targets then that sniper can be very benificial to your team. Snipers can also be pretty good at defending bases. Stop bashing snipers and start using them to your advantage. Many snipers will listen to you ive seen. Tell them to get here or there or to defend a base. They will for the most part do it. I would.

Ummm is it just me or are claymores a sniper's best and worst friend?
Difinitly good at base defense, but it sucks that it's just a skull and crossbones that appear over top the mine, and usually too late. TK's outta the wazzo. If only there was another way to say there's a claymore here.... DEV UP!

I've been privately tweeking some of the sniper aspects for my own personal use (offline or COOP with my roommate) and i've been expirementing with balancing them myself. It aint easy. Since i'm only player co-op or against bots i don't have to worry about sniper abuse.. but for online play it'd be bad.'[R-DEV wrote:Evilhomer']We are really having issues with the sniper class. If its any danger to you (ie claymore while on foot, mine while in a vehicle) you also get the side warning.Noetheinner wrote:Ummm is it just me or are claymores a sniper's best and worst friend?

But they are indeed your best and worst friend, lol. When solo attacking the TV station on Sharqi (regular BF2), I slapped down 2 claymores to cover the two entries to the flag. I wait... and wait... the flag lowers... Then this guy come along in a jeep. Sure enough, he heads straight for the ladder. Dont have time to write. So I pop off 2 rounds at the stairs, hoping he'd take the hint. Nope. I see his blue tag rising, rising and BOOM! An enemy just blew my stair claymore the second he stepped on my ladder claymore.

Yes... thou last time when i was on server... no1 have been spotting/marking targets... and even marked.... well... let's say they were blind as hell :>A Good Sniper that is an even Better Spotter for his Team......then you've really got something!
But yes.. u can mark tanks and choppers from long distance makeing life easier...
I want binoculars...
AAaaa guys !
Give sniper class binoculars, better accuracy, but LONG reload animation...
Maybe a bit more power 1 shot 1 kill.. but u can't shot fast one bullet after another...
Chuck Norris has counted to infinity. Twice.

Actually one of the tweeks i've been toying around with was associated the "shell shock" (the blurring effect when near gernades, artillary, tank fire, ect) with the sniper rifles to a much reduced effect (less than half a second) it doesn't effect the M24 so much, but the semi-auto snipers get a split second of unfocus to sim the misalignment of the shooter and the scope due to recoil.. It doesn't prevent rapid fire, you just can't really tell what your aiming at..

I think the major advantange of the sniper is the scope, especially on the more open maps where they have the ability to engage at ranges where to the unscoped unfortunate they are just a tiny blob. I occasionally play as a sniper just to see what the hell is going on.
Did have a fairly entertaining sniper duel for about 5 mins with the other sniper being prone on a rooftop probably only about 60-70 meters away, both of us plugging away for no damage to either of us..... Eventually a chum died next to me, enabling me to pick up his M16 and use that to kill the other guy.
The M24 is probably useful for beating someone to death, but it sure isn't much use as a projectile weapon atm. Unless you throw it of course.
