Where are the artillery vehicles?

Well I've been playing this mod since the very beginning in which it was only a small mod with the updated anti air guns on the carrier and all. I dlded it cuz it was one of the first mods to come out but I saw it evolving in a rly nice mod and I liked it ever since I first dlded it, so good job guys.

I'm sry if theres alrdy a thread like this one but ive skipped thru the first 5 pages and didnt find anything like this 1 so here we go:

I was playing Kashan Desert today and I suddenly realized that there is no artillery vehicles at all in this mod! 0.o I didnt rly miss it b4 but I think a lot of guys would like to see some of the new modern German mobile houwitzers and the MLRS system by the US (dont know the exact names) and Ive seen this modded into the game rly succesfull by the guys from USi mod (great mod, shame no one plays it) and I think u guys can think up something like that as well.

Anyways this is all just a suggestion but I just feel like saying this to you guys

If it's a suggestion, it goes in the suggestion forum. This area is for what is IN 0.7, and not what isn't in 0.7.

And yes, I do love artillery vehicles too, and have always wanted them in PR. DC was uber fun with the rocket trucks and MLRS.

Not sure it's needed, plenty of people sit on a hill with a tank on one side of the map and "bomb" locations on the other side of the map. Can be really irritating if the air support / anti-tank support is off pissing around doing their own thing.

Thats where the mobile artillery can come in! It would prevent tanks from sitting in one place all the time. The targets could be designated via SOFLAM. Would be awesome if there was some kind of way to make the heavy artillery "work" to aim the rockets/shells properly. Like they have to get the bearing correctly, then the angle, and only then they can shoot, and the missile/rocket would take like 30 seconds to get to the target.

Or if that's too complex for the engine, perhaps going the easier way? Just like the current artillery works. The cannons shoot up in the sky, then a few seconds later, shells start to explode somewhere. Should work

.

I like the idea of spotting/designating with the SOFLAM btw. Should do well with that, I guess.

Like in past suggestions : Artillery vehicles with LRMissiles/LRArtillery that need a precise location (Cannons use degrees to aim at an exact spot = need good maths to pinpoint exact location of requested artillery = great for realistic gameplay)(Missiles use SOFLAM laser targeting) and are very weak so that they're not used in a n00bish way.

The only problem with implementing Artillery has always been to how would the player lock and fire on a far away position without using Over-Shell-camera or ideas from other mods. (SOFLAM direct camera feed giving location target for ex)

A degree-per-meters chart + Degree hud for artillery would do... but that would need testing..

impossible to do without a camera over the target , since this is a game a you dont have all the facy radios , the 2 year training ,etc that you have IRL .

IMO a system like the one in FH" will be the most suitable .

What the hell are you talking about? I don't need 2 year training to use the grenadier kit as a pack-mortar, I just hold it up at an angle and use the crosshair to find where it drops. Isn't that simple?

I was playing a map the other day and I managed to find some artillery.

It is ineffective though as the draw distance is far too short.

The Devs have stated there will be mortars, not self propelled howitzers or rocket launcher, they have too much range.

IIRC , range of self propeled artys is less than range of CAS planes or fighters , and we already have them ingame , so..

A plane in PR has to visually acquire you, or at least be within 500 meters for a guided strike. An artillery piece could (realistically) fire from one end of the map to the other, allowing you to spawn up and sit in your base, while destroying the enemy's base all game.

As stated, this was in the wrong section. I've moved it. That said, it's been suggested in the past, and the devs are aware of the idea. Mortars will (hopefully) be implemented. The devs don't want an unrealistic "magic camera" as in BF1942. Other approaches have been suggested, and they are aware of these.

If you look at the "Already Suggested Suggestions" sticky thread in this section, you'll see that you can use "Ctr+F" to look for things like "artillery", finding "Weapons - Artillery/ Manual", which indicates that this has been suggested before. Apart from that, you can use the search function. Don't go wading through pages and pages of the last suggestions, that would take forever.
