I used to, but people don't always reply, so I don't bother much now. Only server I will definitely say hi/goodbye over voip is T&T.
About the snipers:
There are times when a sniper is required, I don't like to be limited by someone saying never use this or that kit unless the squad is playing a role. For example armour squad, air support etc. Unless its cqb I don't see the problem.
As long as the squad leader politely explains what the squad is trying to achieve, i have no problem though.
But yeah, in an ideal world everyone would be polite over voip, say hi/gg/cya etc and you'd be able to talkin in a lobby/score screen.

At the moment, I think it's a good rule only because half if not all of those kits don't work properly. I see noobs and clanners alike grabbing M14s because they don't know it's broken.EagleEyeLG wrote:I missed the sniper part... I'm not trying to make any assumptions, but if you are not letting people in your squad not use the sniper kit just because you think it's for "noobs" or some other bullshit, then that's ridiculous.
Otherwise, yeah you should let people do as they will unless you are about to enter CQB. As long as your marksman (preferably a DM, honestly, snipers should almost always be pretty far off and in another squad) stays with you guys and doesn't wander off hunting, it should be acceptable.

Indeed. Snipers do not have a place in most infantry squads, periodlol.. there are no snipers in my squad of 6... and not because its broken.
(The omission of the . at the end is supposed to be witty. You know, because it already ends in a period. You know what, just forget it.)
The fact that the snipers are broken has not stopped me from getting a lot of kills with them on Qwai. I literally spent 10 minutes split about equally between the US and Chinese DMRs and got about 10 kills, as well as destroying 2 RPs.

They are not so broken that you literally can't kill anybody, however sometimes at ranges below 600m (and they are supposed to be perfectly accurate until then?) you will line up a shot properly, only to see your bullet land 10 meters away from them. In fact I love the M14 so much, I've tried again and again to use the kit anyway. On several maps I found myself actually having to aim below my target, at the ground as it were, in order to hit their small prone profile on the cliffside.

in my squads, sniper/marksman is not needed 98% of the time. believe me, if i think a good sniper will help my squad, i will request it. the problem comes from people who grab it without asking (AFTER i have specifically mentioned that i dont want it in my squad). i dont mind sniper kits if (after i have given the go-ahead, of coures): an enemy sniper is giving us fits at a defensive position and we need to do something about it, my squad has taken up a defensive role with elevation (like east of east beach on the cliffs on jabal), or....well, that's it. like i said, 98% of the time i dont want it in my squad. leave the sniper kit to a dedicated sniper squad, and for christ's sake...dont listen to an SL give orders about how a sniper is not needed and then take that kit...that's just a jackass move.Jonny5 wrote:I used to, but people don't always reply, so I don't bother much now. as far as being polite ingame...yeah, i'd like to see more of that. i try to make sure to give plenty of positive feedback to good commanders after a round, but even i sometimes forget and log off without saying a word. never take that stuff personally.

Sniper kits should always be left to sniper specific squads... so 2 sniper squads maximum, 1 spotter 1 shooter... also because you need 1 person in the squad to get the kit, and only 1 person per squad of /6 can get the kit "becauses of squad limitations"...
snipers in close quarter infantry squads who do not use voip are annoying, however... a real sniper squad with spotter + shooter is very fun indeed if you know what you're doing, otherwise, you will just end up giving the enemy the sniper kit *raises fist to all who do it*... not only is it fun, its very helpful to the team, especially if the spotter is spotting armour etc for the rest of team and communicating with commander

Well, the problem is that ticket count is no more shown in normal screen. You have to look in squad screen.
This way I just miss the end of the round. That's why I try to at least thanks to squad mates, because VOIP still works till new map starts loading.
And greetings to squad at the start is a must (good way to find a good squad - no answer, time to look elsewhere).

I agree that it's good when people say thanks/good game etc. But so long as it doesn't get too loved up.
Can you imagine this:
>Good game guys, thanks for the good squad play.
>Yeah great game, I love you squad leader
>I love you too, in fact I love all you squad members.
>It's game over now, better finish the conversation
>You still there?
>Yes
>You take your finger off button b first
>ok, bye
>You still there?
>yes
>Ok, I'll go now, I'll miss this great squad, bye
>bye
>You still there?
>yes

heh heh heh!
That is one of the funniest things ever posted in this forum
Manners? Yeah - I'll say hi usually, and in person over chat to any names that I particularly recognise if they're not on VOIP/TS and if I haven't seen them in a while. In VOIP I'll always say hi to anyone I don't recognise joining my squads, and I'll generally say thanks and bye to anyone who lets us know if they're leaving.
At the start of the round I'll often say good luck & good hunting either over VOIP or game chat.
Usually say good game all or similar at about 10 tickets left if I realise (0.7 has made that harder), and thank my squad for following orders etc.
