I say start it as a community project and hopefully it could become a new official gamemode in time. I love the idea I just see some issues with the playerbase.

I voted no to the idea, not because i don't like it, i actually love the idea of air mobile infantry v conventional/ground base forces. I would rather see it as an optional map pack released as a standalone with its own maps.
Think of some jungle maps, choppers dropping the troops into a hot LZ bring a feel of Nam to the mod. Don’t just focus on the British forces though; variety is the spice of life. Have US Marines with the Huey's and Huey gunships in support. British with the Lynx, Merlin and Chinook would also rock.

Insted of a mini-mod, make a new division of the army, with their own weapons, units, and maps !

I agree with others that've posted - a seperate minimod would be tricky.

However, attempting it as part of a community modding project might be feasible - and you might get other community peeps to lend a hand, that way.

Just make a new project, where you make a new game mode. The game mode could just be a copy of AAS but renamed. But, you could now change what vehicle spawns etc. as it is a new gameplay layer. You could then add helis etc.

Well I don't know about a whole seperate mod. But I would definately be up for more maps with a large focus for helocopter insertions and the like.

Ok guys, I'll put something together this week and hopefully a small download to test next week. At this stage it will be a seperate mod, but if players like it, maybe we can incoporate something into PR so a seperate download is not required.

I'll also see if I can get it to work on my server so when you test there is an online presence.

Still keen to hear feedback so keep it coming.

brummy.uk wrote:Only choppers and no combined arms vs some insurgents who have nothing else to do. The choppers would just kill everyone and the insurgents couldn't win unless you give everyone SA-7s.
then u would know what its like to actually have to fight like insurgents in iraq have to fight.
exp. shoot at brits....chopper spotted..... EVERYONE HIDE!!! (chopper goes to refuel)....shooting starts up again...

thats how it is....

as for the mod...i like the idea...but only as part of the offical mod...another download would defanantly cause issues.

Ok guys, I have gone with the new gamemode approach rather than a stand alone mini-mod. I have got it up and running and it works on my server as well. I just need to package it up. Can anyone advise on how I create a self installer that can 'insert' the new gamemode into the relevant PR folders without disturbing anything else in PR?

This is an awesome idea, a good change to just tanks vs tanks and apc's vs apc's.
Time to rise to the occasion.

WallyJas, you read my mind (or did I post something about this over at bigD forums?). Airborne would rock.

Honestly, i'd like to see a map with ain airborne insertion, similar to airport from earlier versions of PR. An airborne mod would be cool.

I think they could meet my needs with a single map, rather than an entire mod (though I wouldn't complain). I'd like to see a map the size of Fools road with maybe the 82nd or 101st Airborne being deployed in a corner of the map. They get no vehicles until the commander sets up assets and they have to secure several bridges or crossroads/towns as the airborne would be used for. I think it would be a good 0.8 map with the inclusion of the new US Army faction. My outfit would enjoy it a lot.

Monumentally bad idea, no subset mods of PR should be allowed, it divides the community up, takes the focus of the mods objectives and feel away from the team to a group of people who want to do something different.

Having some maps with an airborne theme, all fine, in the same way as armour heavy maps etc. They just need to be made and used :)
