Devs: Militia Doctrine, and some suggestions as I am a pedantic *******.

Post by Expendable Grunt »

What ever happened to the "Very long and very short" doctrine of the Militia? In .6, they had the AK47, the PPSh, the Bizon, and the SKS for basic weapons, all of which where short range due to their lack of scope / inherent inaccuracy.

Their officer got the SVD, so you would, theoretically, always have at least one long range weapon in the unit. There where also numerous SVD's and Moison's hanging around the map (Mestia).

In this edition, they got rid of militia pickup kits, which is fine enough I guess. The Bizon is no long a basic weapon, instead going to the Special Operations kit (I am unsure why they have this kit at all), and the sapper getting the AK instead (good). They've kept the PPSh and the SKS, and now request kits, though they do not seem to have any more marksmen or sniper kits than any other faction.

Is this meaning that the old "Very Long, Very Short" idea of the militia is gone?

Now, the officer kit, which formerly had the SVD as a long arm and the scorpion as a backup, has had its grappling hook taken away, and its SVD replaced with an AK-101, as opposed to the AK-47. This gives a militia squad a fairly more accurate / controllable weapon in CQB. It does, however, take away one accurate marksman weapon from a squad, a tool they needed now more than ever on Fools Road. As Militia is one of my favorite factions (in that it has the most potential difference map to map of any other faction), I propose a few things. They are separate suggestions, and are not to be taken as a whole, conglomerate list.

A) Give the officer an optic for his 47/74. Now, before Bob tells me that there is no military mount for the 47/74, I'd like to bring up that there are, in fact, mounts for them, and a weapons dealer doesn't always have to ship / come across military issued things.

B) Augment the scout to have the following:
Knife
Shovel
SKS with 4x Civilian-type scope, 1+4 mags
Smoke
Bandage
No armour / light armour
**The scope is a really, really common SKS accessory. Without frags, a high ROF, high ammo capacity, and armour, this isn't going to be a "end all" kit. It can be used in the scout role, and still be useful in a unit, as an ad-hoc Designated Marksman.

C) Limited Kit -- Rifleman with Optic:
Knife
Shovel
AK47 with after-market type optic
Smoke
Frags
Bandage
Armour
**My weakest suggestion, but still one I felt could be brought up. This kit is limited, as it would be a bit tough to get a hold of some scopes, even in the black market. Due to the heavier round / inaccuracy inherent in the AK47, it would be at a overall disadvantage, but it would still be a handy asset. It carries no ammo, and serves like all the other factions optic rifleman, but limited.

I get a good amount of community feed back from my threads, but I was hoping this time a dev would make a comment. Who knows, if smiled upon maybe I'll include one of these into my urban militia map I've been wanting to make.

When the AK-74M with 1P29 (and GP-25?) scope gets done, I think it would make a good weapon for Militia officer.

IV been woundering if there was a scope for the Ak modals. I was woundering if it be prudent as well to give the Support kits a dot scope and the granader kit a scope too because it still very unpopulor.

because we still find in most maps the support kit is too short range, and it does not proform as it should at long range.

But it not two bad there is still the vechile mounted 50cal, but people don't realise how much of a hard core killer it is still is, Press C it zooms in and you got the eqivelent of a tanks heavy machine gun.

And Devs you should get a dot point on the medic kit also so people use it.

If ya ask me its cheap and effective, and since the militia is a black market faction...is there something they can't get ?????? they can even get an Mil-Mi-24 (don't mention nukes !!!!)

If the militia can get their hands on an export only AK 101 i dont see why they cant get a much more widely available AK 74(which is the russian standard) due to the conflict in Cheznia(sp?). As far as the scope, for the same reason it shouldnt be to hard to get.

My point is the AK 74M is a fine choice. :)

I had suggested that for their rallies -- have them spawn a PKM and SVD when you place them, but the idea never really went anywhere, and the devs gave them the request-a-kit system instead.

A few optics would be nice for militia, from a personal point of view. But I don't see how that would benefit the balance on the two militia maps.

i also think, that militia should go back to the original prioritys not having a ak or at least only for the SL and giving them just as suggestet perhaps a SKS with scope for the scout and one without for the rifleman

Nah, Militias world wide use the AK more than the SKS.

right, but as rhino said, we do not need another AK faction, the loss of Assault Rifles was a nice variantion

Though, my Beloved Militia faction doesn't have the deviation the Insurgents have.

Not quite, but it's still pretty nasty, as it should be. Insurgents are at 0.2, with Militia next highest at 0.17. All the 5.56 weapons are 0.1, so that's a significant difference.

I like all your suggestions Grunt, as militia has become a faction that has serious trouble competing infantry v infantry. The scout kit in particular is almost useless in combat, as it doesn't have the range or the ROF to compete against the brits.

What Fools road did to militia is marvelous, they are no loner a novelty faction, and are instead treated more seriously as they should be, I agree with all of Cheo's posts (except the second one), but i think that the militia should be a force to be reckoned with, as they should be. Please none of this, "but those are too expensive for the militia they are supposed to be poor", umm no the militia deal arms to every army except maybe the Salvation Army.

I think most of the ideas Expendable Grunt has come up with are awesome.
Infact the Millitia have got to the be the army with the most 'character' (Insurgence come second) in PR.

We should make it that Millitia can get more of the limited kits because of their buying power -aka- regular armies are designated arms, Millitia just buy a hundred create loads of the stuff.

I've also noticed that on most of the Millitia maps I've played on, many Millitia will take dead brit kits over their own. Cammon guys, Millitia guns are WAY cooler than the Brits, EASILY!.
Time to rise to the occasion.
