Frustrated.Thinking of taking up Red Orchestra again.

Post by BeerHunter »

I’m getting kinda frustrated with PRM.

The server where I was initiated and became a supporting member to show my appreciation for the kindness and assistance offered is now nearly always packed and other servers that ping much lower to me are seldom occupied.

On the full server I seem to get a fair bit of lag as well as that obnoxious “connection problem” message.

My connection is wireless high speed and so subject to spikes once in a while. Sometimes my ping will go from 70 or 80 up to 300-600 for a few seconds then drop down again. Then stupid Punk Buster will kick me because my “average” (taken over a few seconds of high ping..go figure) ping is abnormally high.

An overly populated server also restricts the squads you can join and if you get into a leaderless squad (one where the SL rambles off somewhere in a plane) or doesn’t drop RP or bunkers you’re kinda screwed and have a hell of a hike back. And there’s nothing you can do about it. Can’t bump the SL can you?

Can’t always join another squad as they’re either full or locked.

No sense creating your own (don’t feel competent enough to SL anyway) late in the game as everyone’s usually settled in and you need a certain number of members to even take a kit or drop a RP.

Argh!!

I’ll probably still play once in a while but after a week end of Red Orchestra , think that’s where my focus is going.

But good luck to the developers in the meantime. You’ve done on hell of a job!!

dont give up on it just yet. we all have times where we cant get a good game going. remember, version .07 is still pretty new, so theres still plenty of noobs playing. see if you can catch a game towards the end of the round, and when a new round starts start your own squad. its really not that hard, you know what your objectives are, and if you have people that arent working together as a team you can kick them from your squad. plus if its in the middle of a game, look on the menu to see if theres any unassigned players {there always is i cant stand it} and invite them to your squad. and dont hesitate to invite people from other squads.

If you support it financially, then why not ask the server owner to set up reserved slots for members and admins? Many servers do it.

Hate to see ya go, but I think skeletor has a good idea. Take out the price of reserving yourself a slot on your fav. server from what you give to PRM [we wont hate you] and make it enjoyable for yourself :)

We'd rather get a few dollars less than lose someone over something server/connection related [as opposed to the vast amount of PRM is too hard and not 1337 I'm quiting! reasons]

Hope that's doable for you, If not, see ya around, we'll be here when you come back :)

*edit*

Oh, I misread, do you support the server and not have a reserved slot? if so, try and see if you can get one... I read it as you support PR and not a specific server [but I also see you're a supporting member, so thank you]

Been getting a lot of connection problems lately as well, but that is my stupid ISP. I hope you stay and I suggest playing with buddies. With two buddies you can create a squad that can lay rallies and have a lot of fun. Hope you still have some fun with PR!

Use windows vista with wireless by chance? In some cases that can cause lag spikes.

Thanks ..

Do have a reserved spot but don't use it because I always feel guilty about bumping someone who may have been playing for hours as a valuable SL , pilot , gunner etc and besides , if the server is full , I can't say how long I'll be able to play before the lag becomes intolerable or my ping spikes and I get booted by Punk Buster anyway.

But I'm still gonna be a staunch PRM supporter.

Maybe in a while either more will play on other servers or the novelty will wear off and the server I support won;t always be packed to the hilt whne I can play (notice that sometimes it isn't but I can't play because of RL work committments).

In my knowledge, reservered slots are shown in the server list, and are slots that set aside for only donators to use. The slots are there taking up space no matter if someone is using them or not. You don't automatically kick another player when joining as a donator, you just take up a reserved, set-aside, unused playing slot.

Example:

Server Name | Ping | 60/64 (4)| Map Name

The (4) is the number of reserve slots and it takes up space even if no one is using them.

If I'm going about this all wrong, and the server you play at actually uses admins to kick players to make room for donators, then forget what I said

Hurry back to PR!

Have you considered a firmware upgrade for the router and/or a clean install of your wifi cards software? Windows OS's have a tendency to throw up all sorts of problems which I reckon are nominally caused by dodgy installer packages by programmers.
