To be honest, I don't see why people even insist on using the damn things. Soldiers don't use flashbangs, except the rare occassion when SF will use it in a CQB/MOUT situation.
Flashbangs are not meant to be effective in open environments, they are designed for use in confined areas. I have had an accidental discharge of a No 25 outdoors before with minimal disorientation, mostly just a ringing in my ears for 5-6 seconds. When I have had them employed against me indoors, no matter how many times you have trained with them, you almost want to piss your pants.
Seriously, no BS here, how many of you actually use a flashbang as intended? This means for room clearing, not just tossing it on the ground to blind people while you run and steal the freshly spawned A-10.
So I guess my opinion is that, based on the current method of employment (outdoors), the effects are more than suitable at their current levels. Dev time would be better spent working on other serious issues.

Just out of curiosity ninja, what's your experience with military use of flashbangs (not giving you sh!t, just asking for curiosity's sake) ? Interested as to what US units do have, even if limited, use of distraction devices like flashbangs.Ninja2dan wrote:To be honest, I don't see why people even insist on using the damn things. as for other question, in PR I would say I use flashbangs ALOT. Im kinda having a laugh at the moment though because people say flashbangs should be stronger in this game, yet flashbangs tend to affect everyone differently and its really a dynamic based on the environment and proximity to said object. Some people shake the effects off rather quickly , some crawl up into a ball and puke. Then we go into the fact that there are different grades and makes of flashbangs , etc etc etc.
but yes +1 to flashbangs being stronger in PR.

In the military I have NEVER seen a flashbang deployed by any soldiers. I have seen 18-series carry them in their gear under rare occassion, but friends that have been or currently are in SF state they have not deployed such devices either. Remember that door breach charges are NOT the same as flashbangs, hence the statement I made in my previous post.icehollow wrote:Just out of curiosity ninja, what's your experience with military use of flashbangs (not giving you sh!t, just asking for curiosity's sake) ?

I have used flashbangs and other DD's while working as LE. I have had them thrown at me both indoors and out while participating in training, and I have thrown them at others both indoors and out. I have also used launched versions as well, 37mm/40mm and 12g fired.
If the FB's in PR are being used indoors, then I agree their effect could be improved. But from what I have seen so far, they are used primarily outdoors. And in an outdoor environment, where most intended effects are lost, the current effects of PR FB's is fine.
My question is, why is the PR FB picture saying Def Tec 25, yet the photo shown is not the Def Tec Model? Nothing too important, just curious.

Oh fuck speaking of breaching charges, it'd be sick if we could get those modelled ingame, sadly won't happen though as the BF2 engine can't handle doors etc like that.Ninja2dan wrote:In the military I have NEVER seen a flashbang deployed by any soldiers. Flashbangs are handy weapons to give user the edge in response times when fighting indoors and especially when hostages are in the room. They tend to be used where capture is necessary, civilian and friendly casualties need keeping to a minimum or zero or for some types of control.
Admittedly your average soldier won't be using them IRL, but they are fun ingame, no?
I remember when they were first put in a test build, we had some fun with them, although never as much fun as molotovs!

I disagree, there's been countless times where i've thrown a frag in a room and still received fire from inside. Where as flashbang is visual, so it works unlike silly little exploits that cant protect you from nades.OldCrow wrote:It's just easier and more effective to clear a room with a frag grenade....that's why flashbangs don't get used much, at least for me. Maybe for the insurgency game/mode...so you can capture civilians instead of obliterate them.

I maintain, and will always maintain, that flashbangs should only be used in the insurgency game mode. In real life an FB is only used when a frag is not practical (ie when you might kill a civi or 3), when fighting a conventional force in an area devoid of civilians there is no reason for thier inclusion.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
Many thanks to [R-DEV]Adriaan for the sig!

That is the problem that I have seen so far. For example, if a grenade goes off opposite a concrete wall you are behind, you still take damage if you are in the blast radius. Obstacles have minimal if any effect on those things. I have suffered FB effects while outside of a building, that in real life I would not have felt anything. This is the reason why an IED blast will still kill you if you are hiding on a roof above it. Even with the building in the way, you still take full damage from the blast radius of the device.daranz wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's possible to model different effects for FBs depending on whether or not they go off indoors or outdoors. Then, there's also the problem of there not being a whole lot of CQB fighting in PR (the BF2 engine wasn't really made for that, after all).
This is why I stated before that since most FB as of now (in PR) are used outdoors, it would be unfair to boost their effect if it can't vary between indoors and outdoors. It would be nice though if someone could figure out a work-around for that problem.

Do not post stupid suggestions just because you had a bad round in PR
