Using PR for RL stuff

Post by Michael_Denmark »

Have you actually learned something (anything) from playing Project Reality that you have used in Real Life?
Define irony. A bunch of guys playing PR year after year. A game teaching initiative as the prime mover.
However, in regard to EA, these guys never took the initiative.

Hm, I don't know about learning from PR, expect lots of information about military stuff. I have learned a lot from moderating though. If anyone needs an evil overlord, they know who to call.

OK, so there is actually stuff in this 2D and 3D environment that can be learned and transferred to RL.

Have anyone made it to the level where stuff learned from PR could be used to earn money in RL?

probably the devs and the contributors and thats it
PR/bf2 doesn't really teach you anything, not the type of round a gun uses, nothing really. Only thing is teamwork I guess, coordination.
with a proper engine and good support, a game like PR could be a great recruiting tool for the military.

What does b/c means?

Not a native English, so still learning the language.

I can't say that I have. I've learned a bit more about the BF2 engine, done more research on military topics, but overall nothing I could apply to making money really.

Things I learned from PRM that are applicable to RL??

well..kinda found out what EAX is , best to turn graphics down for better game performance , that the latest video card on the market , despite the hype about improved video performance , is bottlenecked by my MB and CPU so I saved my $$'s , turn off all background services that use my internet for a more stable ping..few other computer settings..

PR has taught me how to fly helicopters, and how to ball up in the fetal position and cry when I crash one full of my teammates..

In honesty, PR has given me a taste for firearms. I've since enjoyed shooting rifles and handguns at the range much more.

I have learned that the PR Dev team is actually a bunch of secret military personnel brainwashing us vets to reenlist. They have created such fun gameplay that it makes many of us want to strap on our LBV's and grab a rifle and mask.

In honesty though, I can't really think of anything from PR that would apply to real life in regards to gameplay. While there is a bit of realism involved here, not enough to make you a soldier in real life. I would think that the lessons to be learned here are not tactical, but social. Interacting with people from different cultures and nations, and having a good time with those people without asking them their origins/race/religion/employment/etc.

I owe to PR (and other PC games in general) for the English 'lessons' ;-)
