Request for a guide...

Post by Thyreus »

Well, I've been looking through the In-Game Tactics and Strategies forums and the manual, which both contained healthy amounts of information. There's still one thing that would be nice to have though, and that'd be how to properly relay information to squad mates.

Like, what is the proper way of alerting of enemies and pointing out where they are? I know of SALUTE, but that one sounded more like something you should use if you had a good amount of time to really describe all the details.

I usually find myself trying to KISS (keep it short and simple) but ending up with something like "one guy to the west, to the left of that little rock thing... he's killed me now". Or "he's coming up to the right, right at us!"...

It just doesn't sound very simple and professional. Are there any good communication guidelines and terms to make it as simple as possible when you have very little time to talk?

Use the compass to your advantage so instead of
"he's coming up to the right, right at us!"
use
"contact to 185!"

If you have a squad that is looking to the overall same direction as you, using left and right is fine. But yea, the use of the compass bearings make it more precise but only if your squad is close as well.

So descriptions like "behind the wooden house" or stuff like that is still applicable, like it would be irl.

Take a look at this video series of gameplay in Fools Road and see all of them being used.

YouTube - PR v0.7 Fools Road Gameplay Part 1 of 5

The squad generally knows what is the "front", the "back", the "left" and the "right" if the SL passed a general objective to the squad, like "let's hold this road". You know the road is your front, and like in the movie you will see us yelling "somebody behind us" because we know the forest is behind us.

But most of all you will see use of descriptions like "the silo", "the white building", etc, and compass bearings being just simple, North, East, South-East, or numbers, 185, 205, 65, etc.

As the SL I think the easiest way to make people look or shoot to a direction is using the attack command as you will see a lot in the video.
