Small Question about mines
Alright so I recently saw a USMC APC drive over a mine on sunset city, and he only took about half damage. Is this intended or a bug or something? Every other mine I've seen go off has destroyed the vehicle immediately.

I think it is the problem if "the firecracker in the open hand, the firecracker in the closed hand". The C4 does pretty much all its damage through extremely high pressure gases, and those high pressure gases will usually spread more of their force out in the direction where there is less resistance.markonymous wrote:why wont the c4 destroy any armored vehicles? i think its powerfull enough in real life . Atleast the Pack the soldiers holding in-game looks like a good 500 grams- 1kg
If you place it the C4 right on the surface of the thick tank armor, sure it will do damage, but most of your explosive power would have been lost as the pressure was not able to build up to a really destructive level.
Now instead place it in a tightly confined area like between the bottom turret armorand the tank body and you will see alot more damage as there are less low resistance areas where the gases can escape.

Putting C4 on the back of an APC kills in 1 I think, while a tank is 2? I'd have to go test that, but that seems like some good numbers to me.
I have never witnessed the above mine scenario, but seems like it is a BF2 problem, as mines will kill all vehicles in one hit.

Ah thanks for that, he was going down a bit of a slope where he couldn't see the mine so that explains it.
Are you sure it was a mine? All the mines I've seen kill in one. Maybe somebody dropped C4 and it only grazed the APC.
Yes, I placed it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! now thats funny. Do you really thing 1kg of plastic explosives can take out armor in real life. Sorry not trying to flame but that is funny (sorry in a mech scouts unit). Our LAV has taking loads of **** from 120mm mortars to even EFP bombs (badly make of course). Plastic explosives will do little more than make a loud noise much less penetrate anything. I think the SLAM should be more destructive as its a shaped charge. Too bad you cant recreate dynamic shaped charge explosive effects on this engine.markonymous wrote:why wont the c4 destroy any armored vehicles? i think its powerfull enough in real life . The SLAM does penetrate the armor of an APC and kill/maim the crewmen in PR without destroying the vehicle, somewhat simulating the effect of a shaped charge. Sadly, it won't do more than scratch the paint off a tank, and you never really get close enough to plant SLAMs on a skilled APC without getting blown away by the APC itself or infantry around it.
