Yes, we are. :m1helmet: Unless the Ministry of Defence has stopped issuing them . . . ?

It is actually common to see photos of UK infantrymen on peacekeeping patrols in Iraq and Afghanistan to be seen wearing either their "boonie" covers or their corps/regimental color berets (which must get pretty warm, as I think those are made of wool!), but their Mk 1 helmet will probably be the most common headgear in PR.

A good idea (if codable) would be that helmets could stope maybe 1 or 2 rounds from a pistol if shot in the back of the head

with the helmet on yes.

i wouldn't like your odds if it was against anything bellow 9mm though.

The helmet would only really be effective against pistol-caliber rounds at medium to long range, and shrapnel. At point blank, you're dead. Even if the helmet could stop the round, the sheer forces acting against your head would give you a severe concussion.

Still, I sure as hell wouldn't want to go into a combat zone without a helmet. It saves your *** from shrapnel (lord knows there's often lots of that shit flying around) and the occasional glancing shot, a la the Normandy scene in Saving Private Ryan.
Just don't stand up afterwards. :p

[EDIT]Fixed a spelling error. Silly me.[/EDIT]

I swear to you, I saw a British helmet with two bullet pits right on the rim of the helmet. The guy was wearing it with a huge smile, and the caption said Kalashnikov fire.

Well last time I was in Iraq the lads were getting issued new whole kevlar helmets (heavier than standard). I always thought the orginal ones we were issued were kevlar???? Anyways I wouldn't like to stick my head in front of any kind of pistol/rifle even with a Mk7 Helmet on. lol
