OGT: Helicopter.

Post by pwn3ge106 »

The helo on the map is very out of place. The only way it works, is if you use it as attack. Me, liking to transport, there are 0 landing zones. The heli pad the helo starts on is almost impossible to land back on without hitting a tree. And dont give me **** about not being good, becuase im sure anyone would find it hard to fit a heli into 10m of space between trees, and i cant even see the ground where im going to land.

yep :D

tbh the only reason why its in the map is because we needed a map to feature the merlin in v0.5 as we had no other British map that fitted better for choppers at that time :p

Probaly time to remove it, would only be useful if you had the teh 1337 f4st r0p35 :p

Its a beautiful map, but that merlin has always annoyed me...

are you serious?

i loved flying the merlin. you just gotta know where to land..

i've been able to land it also alot around temple/inside temple, and then by north/south bridges. really helps alot if you have a good team if you want.

While I am a huge Transport Helo pilot myself, I think I agree with Rhino on this one. The Helicopters on Ghost Train are generally wasted; there are few places to drop troops, visibility is extremely low, and the Merlin is at a disadvantage anyways because the Chinese chopper is armed with side guns.

On that note, are there any plans to put some machine guns on the Merlin? Just some SAW's maybe?

It can be very useful, but overall the helos don't really fit. It would be interesting to play the map without them. Even though it seems like much of the time we're already doing that :/

I can hover them on the slopes near the tower... troops can dismount that way. But that's the only place I can think of other than on top of the bridge or in the water.

Fast rope alternative: throw grappling hook below you, jump out of chopper and hope to hell you land on it while holding the E button.

But yeah Rhino is right, remove em and maybe put more boats in for the chinese and give Brits a lynx if one gets made.

Fast ropezorz would only be useful if the chopper-blades had a collision mesh ;) .

As a huge Transport Helo pilot yourself, you should know that us pilots are working towards LESS side-guns to stop morons blasting on them like megaphones when they're bored. They might as well just be on VoIP acting their age: "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?"

I like them on OGT. Useful to get guys near South Bridge, or Tunnel (on top), or temple, etc.

There are only two LZ's (where each one spawns) that are "easy" to land on -- because they're not supposed to land.

Perhaps the use of Little Birds and the chinese equivalent should be included on OGT? It would make landing easier and they are small enough to be considered sensible on the map, instead of the huge transport choppers.

They wont throw the balance off by much becuase of the damage they take from small arms fire meaning a strong defence can ward off a strafing run by the small choppers

Maybe its time for that. I noticed the CR2 and militia tank has a turret that can collide and cause problems though it generally pushes the tank back  instead of restricting the turret movement.
So I dont know if rotors colliding would work out or not, maybe too much trouble but a great idea anyhow

With the heli on OGT I dont see the harm in it and it can be used but generally the map is too small to actually require the heli for much.
By the time it warms up you could have got there in a truck basically

I want the rear ramp controlled by the pilot with a gun on it, when its open you can leave the heli and use the gun otherwise shut the hell up :D
