Helo particle effects

Post by bonbrew22 »

hey, i've been playing your mod for about three days (straight) now
and one thing i've always wanted, an increase in the ammount of dust created by helocopters when there near to the ground, at the level it is now its barley noticable.

i was reminded of this when i was dropped into combat by a AH-6 (BEST Helo EVAR BTW) and it landed and i got off, but the smoke was minimal, it was somewhat dissapoing after watching helicopers in real life kick up LOT of dust.

i know theres a perfomance issue to worry about but i don't think it would be a HUGE tax, and the payoff would be worth it.

PS: are you guys looking for modellers?

Welcome to the forums! I have to say I'd agree with you on the dust but I think that might be something further into the future (Full version of PR).

As for your last comment, check your PMs :) .

I agree, to a certain extent.

That type of effect is very dependant. It depends solely on where the helicopter is hovering near the ground. If it's over a dusty/sandy area yeah, there will be a significant kick-up. But if it's over for instance, a grassy field, there would be little to no kick-up at all.

As far as how extensive the game engine can go into this type of effect I have no idea. Personally I think if we were to drop the effect in certain areas, such as grassy fields, we could increase it in other areas and still maintain optimal performance levels.

I definatly think this effect is in need of some tweaking.

the big probelm about this, is the more dust you add the more it lags

It is possibal to add alot more dust just be chaining the .tweak files of that effect. But the Devs will have to see how much lag it produces and is it worth it

I believe the amount of dust kicked up could be determined by the material for that layer on that part of the map.

do it bfv style:

little sprite or box or something falls from the helicopter, when it hits the ground, it turns into effect specific to the material it hit. then just make lots of little falling boxes near the edges of the rotor.
