Using the laser target designator
To use the SOFLAM, the officer needs to point it at the target, press T and select Laser Target. The manual states that the target lasts for 15 seconds, does this persist even after the SOFLAM is put away?

No, the "laser target" in the T rose is nothing more than a verbal command sending a message to the pilots that you are lasing, It does not mean that you are acctualy lasing, You need to press your primary fire key (default left mouse button) to start lasing. you will see a laser box apear where you are lasing through the soflam.DrMcCleod wrote:To use the SOFLAM, the officer needs to point it at the target, press T and select Laser Target.
here's a nice soflam tutorial
other than that, yes, the laser stays for 10 to 15 seconds after you have fired the soflam, even if you put away your soflam and run off.

yay was hoping some one would do a vid tut on this, only bit missed out on it is the need to call in a CAS marker so all the jet pilots can see where they need to go for there bombing run, and can put there attack makrer on it to get the distance, and the commander can tell the jet squad to bomb that location which is the best way.Cp20000 wrote:here's a nice soflam tutorial

Now just need some one to do a vid tut on how to drop a bomb onto a lased target, thou best to wait for the next patch where you can see the HUD for that

I have a commander concern about this. Sometimes, though not often, a commander sees a target in which to laser. He then needs to communicate to the CAS squad to strike the target. However neither the "B" squad VOIP to the selected squad nor "Attack Target" marker works for the commander when not in Commander Map mode.
So to do this they need to switch to commander screen and VOIP to the CAS squad. Then they need to "guesstimate" the location of the target and set the attack marker on the commander screen. Then they have to wait for the CAS squad to be incoming before switching out and laser the target hoping that they were not delayed. This often means you may have to laser the target many times. All the while you have to keep switching to the commander screen to change the attack marker if the target moves. It can get rather complicated with the commander doing all this.
Is there a possibility of allowing these things to happen in a future patch?
P.S. To those that will undoubtedly say that a commander shouldn't be doing this I agree. However there are times when it is done and needed. So the opportunity is there is the situation calls for it. Which is did for me on multiple targets while I was stuck defending a rear CP by myself while commander. After all not all teams believe in Defense of a CP. Which is more than aggravating and could fill an entire thread by itself.
