Sights on the tanks

Post by ghost_dog »

I was on the British tank as gunner and found the RED Circles sites very primitive and arcade type gaming quality.
I think in real life it be very different and if not I would prefer all aiming sites to be more professional looking more Techie looking fine black outlines cross hairs with numbers etc. but does not have to be numbers
Like the British weapons and other weapons I look at the sights and Iam bored, like something sexy serious looking if you know what I mean.
I have attached some pics. What do you think guys?

Peace.

no that is the real CR2 gunner sight, thou the real one is a little finer, we are tweaking it for the next release.

also putting titles in 100% caps just looks like your a 13yr old kid trying to get attention, please dont do it.

Post by ghost_dog »

Rhino, my appology about the caps, was not aware that it meant anything.
I put them in merely as a heading nothing more.

basradly
That is not a word, unless you combined Basrah and Badly.

Anyhow, it does seem a bit ghetto, but that's how brits like to roll I guess.

Looking at the display for the Challenger comparing it to the Scimitar or APCs on Fool's Road is like looking at child's drawing compared to a Monet. The same, though to a lesser degree, goes for the US Main tank gun site. Look at either one compared to the MEC gun site. It's so completely different. I assume that because trajectory and angle are all computer by a computer in the Challenger and Abrams and hence the gunner doesn't have to worry about it. But even so you'd thing there would be a back up system just in case the computer is down.

There is, it's called the GAS sight (gunners auxilery sight), it old school gunning, a sight next to the breach, two reticles, Sabot & heat, it has a stadia reticles for range and the gunner needs to induce lead in his targeting, looks alot like the MEC gun sights...just a lot less

Well alright. There you go. Simplified reticle due to computer assisted aiming on the main HUD. Then a back up with degrees and the such off to the side for when the computer is down. Makes sense. And there is our answer as to why it looks so simple in an Abrams or a Challenger. The Challenger probably has something similar. Though I still have to say that the bullseye looks silly.

Not really.

I was a tad disappointed when I hopped into the well modeled, well textured, well-designed Challenger with all it's hype to be confronted with the MSPaint sights it currently has
