Teamspeak Autojoin
4 those not reading the whole thing and starting flaming right away: I have searched the Already Suggested Thread and the Suggestion Forum all together.
A while back we had a suggestion of using an external program to simulate weapon sway via manipulating the mouse.
I found that idea to imply too much effort for too less.
Im suggesting an external program that would automatically join u to the appropriate Teamspeak server(or Mumble or Ventrilo, whatever works best) when u join a server.
From that point on the program would automatically switch u to ur squad channel. Im not sure, but i think its possible to speak in multiple channels, so squadleader and commander com would be possible. Also, u could talk to the vehicle channel or proximity channel.
IF all that is easily detectable that is. Whilst just autoconnecting to the right TS Server is propably easy to do, all the other channel joining could alternatively be done via hotkeys in ts, just like here: dslyecxi.com - enjoy your stay
y? Coz ts powns and voip sux, especially delay-wise. Also, its more likely to find an external programm that fits our needs or that we can alter(mumble is opensource iirc), than getting bf2s source someday.
As a little addition, Mumble is said to support positional chat in bf2(Games - Mumble)
//edit: Check out the Wiki for Mumble: Mumble (computer software - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
To sum all the goodies up: Overlay with Avatars, lower latency, better sound quality, complex channel hierarchy(e.g. virtual channels), autojoin support for BF2

Now try that with a squad full of strangers. Clans and generally ppl that game together often might automatically use ts, but many public players proply dont even know what ts is. And having TS and Voip runnning at the same time is the worst thing ever. I had my m8 babbling about useless shit(funny, but useless), which prevented me from hearing the often way quieter VOIP using squadies and especially the commander. Also, the only time a spotting really came fast enough was from my m8, coz the voip would delay til just AFTER i got killed.
If TS and a handy App were to be distributed with PR, more or even most ppl would use TS(what a dream).
They should do it themselfs u say? Well, like with most ppl new to something, they wont even try to put the effort into it. My m8 i was talking about wouldnt bother manually joining the server and especially not with setting up hotkeys.
Also, if a standardized hotkey were distributed with PR, it would definitlyease up efforts to join your squad channel. For instance, CTRL + 1...8 could be for the squads with the respective numbers. You might even get real freaky and make a channel for the proximity of every flag, so u could ask for passage or passengers in the mainbase or alert everyone at Flag XY that the enemy is breaking through from e.g. the north with two squads, instead of first having to tell the commander, who definitly has more important things to do.
A last freaky idea would be a directx overlay for teamspeak to trully integrate it into the game.
If we cant manipulate communications(VOIP) ingame, we should use a programme that we can indeed make fit for our needs.
//edit: Looks like Mumble could do all that automatically with a lil programming.

In the light of recent events( us discovering that Mumble totally powns) i think this thread deserves a *push*.
I read the Forum Rules and didnt find anything explicit about pushing. Im sry if angered any mods.
_Mumble_ has:
-lower latency, better quality(compared to ts)
-A very complex channel hierarchy...
-that can be automatically manipulated via D-Bus, making autojoining the according team/squad channels possible
-An Overlay with Avatars
-possibly positional audio support for bf2

tbh, ive never seen something so great, with so many features, being so fucking poorly documented. I cant find shit about scripting for Mumble on Google. And u can forget about their Wiki and their forums too.
But still, its sooo tempting
//edit: The only thing regarding linking mumble ot a bf2 srv iv found is the link.pl in the source code files.
Perl any1?

I agree, What ever it takes to get squad leaders to talk to each other and being able to contact Chopper pilots aircraft so on. would just make it that much more real. Can we add in the SHHHH garbble like ya hear pilots have in cockpits in the movies hehehehe lololololol.
Image just squad leaders and the commander commuinicating about the attack plans.
be real then lol..

Actually my experience says that in game VOIP is better than TS delay wise.
A **** load better.
And don't even get me started on Ventrilio...

Re: Teamspeak Autojoin
Yes, please to an automated channel switch. SLs get direct comm with other SLs and the commander. Everyone gets directional/distance comm to all friendlies. Although commanders can already comm with all SLs through regular PR voip, the difference between this and having all SLs having a dedicated direct channel to their counterparts is the one of the most important factors here (not excluding spoken directions to the heli pilot when next to him), imo.Im suggesting an external program that would automatically join u to the appropriate Teamspeak server(or Mumble or Ventrilo, whatever works best) when u join a server.

1 channel for SLs/commander. (not affected by direction/distance)
1 channel per squad (using direction/distance).
Problem where speech is overheard by the enemy resolved.
I use mumble. Am I in the right thread?
