How much can a weapon do in the BF2 engine? (And another fast rope hack idea)

Post by Human Shield »

How much scripting can be done with weapons and what is hard-coded?

Yes, this partly another fast rope idea because I haven't been satisfied with the answers and ideas so far.

Parachute fast-rope hack:

The 9 key selects an invisible weapon.

Through its iron sights it can lock on to friendly/all aircraft (or just transports if that is possible). It can only lock on with 2 meters or so (done inside the craft).

Once locked-on the fire key releases an invisible parachute.

Keeps locked on or parachute shuts off (possible?).

Shoot out black line sprite from gun or any other effect.

Stays locked if in middle of screen, weapon sensitivity is forced very low.

Adjust parachute handling and drop speed (possible?).

Other questions:

1. Apply helicopter speed to ground impact like ground vehicles?

2. Can weapons effect gravity variables? How do parachutes work in the BF2 engine?

And if you want to reply saying its impossible and has been covered, it would be better if you actually explained how the engined worked or else I will just be left with another idea to break the engine.

..........

on second thought:

.....

ok, well... you can't just make up a thread on fastropes, toss in a few questions and ideas and think "it'll be ok"

"What is hardcoded"

Well, basically, if it would help PR out in any way, or if it would make things easier for the DEV team, it's hardcoded.

I'm serious.

Its hardcoded, the DEV's have done everything in their power, virtually since before BF2 was even released. Every idea under the sun has been brought up, including the vehicle idea. Besides, the majority of the team[excluding DesertFox] doesnt see the point of fastropes anyway. just land on the ground or drop them off somewhere safe, where you SHOULD be dropping them off.

If people wanna discuss the other ideas, go ahead, I guess... I'm tempted to lock anyway, but for some reason my brain isnt allowing it just yet. I wont hesitate though if I feel the need, the need to lock.

apply helicopter speed to ground impact? Whats that mean?
Can weapons effect gravity variables? Whats that mean?
Parachutes, I would imagine function on their own code. I dont think they are vehicles of any sort. Im pretty sure they are just a parachute coded item that kits have. But, someone can answer that better and more correctly, as Im just speculating...

p.s. welcome to the forums.

p.p.s. on third though: just someone with more available knowledge on fastropes answer his question or about the other weapons coding questions. Really this needs to be locked, but you are looking for an answer in addition, and I think it might benefit the rest of us to know what weapons are capable of and how parachutes function... I dont know... Am I getting too soft?

p.p.p.s with the parachute hack idea, youd have like 5 guys in the back all on their own rope... which would be ridiculous. And you cant expect it to be limited to just the first two seats because then everyone would have to spam the two seats to get into them and then youd have 2 ropes at a time, etc, not to mention youd have to get out of the Black Hawk and somehow onto the rope, which would mean a NEW exit location that was only used on exiting while using the ropes... which is impossible afaik.

On fourth thought: go to the community modding section and ask about weapon coding and parachutes there. Locked for resuggest. Geez, make up your mind Okita...

Cant find your answer on what is hard coded? Search. Search for a similar thread on fast ropes, and discuss there. Fast ropes will not be added, and if you hear it has been added prior to any release... Its a joke. :P Locking for failure to search, and discuss in a similar thread.

Edit: Wow Okita... just wow... :P
