First things you do after joining a game?
I had this discussion w/ a friend whom agrees. I'm curious about the rest of you.
With the release of .7 game play has changed as we all know. Now I see some complaints about bad rounds etc. I think the game play experience depends heavily on your own squad. We all can't be clan members, though many people play to that level.
In order to maximize my game play experience, the first thing I do after loading in is check the map to see what squads have rally points set. A good game play experience demands a competent squad leader who understands that his primary job is keeping rally points up. Then of course I check for open slots in these squads.
Many times the good squads are full. If I can't get into a squad with visible rally points I'll join the next fullest one and check for VOIP. If the squad leader lacks a mic I start my own squad if there is a Commander.
If there is no commander I check the tickets and typically see our team losing! A commanding officer is a necessity IMO and at times I "take one for the team" and apply for Commander.
I do these things because I have learned what makes a good or bad round in PR. Usually I am a Squad Leader out of necessity or because I feel I can do the job better. I have lots of fun every game and my squads always stick together and follow orders. If they don't they get kicked, and if the Squad Leader can't lead, well I find a better squad. I was weary of the changes in .7 but I have come to enjoy them. They have indeed added to game play. They have also made the game more difficult to play though.
Sometimes I wish the squad leader could build his own limited assets if the Commander was vacant though. I also wish the commander had some ability to build assets on his own when squads will not respond to shovel.
I wonder if the complainers do these things or if they just join bad squads and suffer. Or do they fail to learn the Commander position where they may be very satisfied and needed!??

Basically my steps too. I try to find a full working, rally point owning squad. Joining a squad that doesnt do rally points is setting yourself up for a terrible roundSpacepiston wrote: In order to maximize my game play experience, the first thing I do after loading in is check the map to see what squads have rally points set. I should really start being SL more though, at least I would use VOIP and set a rally when we had enough guys... I should really get over my inferiority complex... *shrug*

That's exactly how I feel, too...[R-CON]OkitaMakoto wrote: I feel I bore people in my squad...

And of course I play way too seldom, so I really don't know all the secret and sweet spots on most maps. That's why I am so reluctant to go SL.
Another hint: If you really have no choice but to end up in a squad with inexperienced SL/SM's, just take that round to share your experience and show them around. You still might loose badly, but it can be rewarding and give you a warm feeling. And sometimes you really see the squad growing better.
I think that might be the better job for the team (and certainly for the community) than frantically switching squads in order to find the vet one.

One thing I wished happened more is ppl taking a NCO role and helping the squad lead with coordination and gameplanning. I find myself doing this way more than actual squad leading and find it easier to have squads work together if they're taking orders from two directions. Mostly all you gotta do is keep everyone inline and be the dominating voice on the comms along with keeping the motivation up.
A good NCO can even turn the most rag tag bunch into a fighting machine and get their guys coordinating and communicating while they're Squad leader focuses on movement and overall objectives. I like to think that I make the Squad Leader position easier and less stressful for ppl as most ppl only really need a little boost in confidence to take the initiative. This is how I am doing my part to improve the community but I just wish the elitist clans wouldnt lock themselves away and finally realize that by simply playing regularly they are representing PR whether they like or not.

Well first thing I do is see if the sniper rifle kit is available, and then see if any vehicles are available. I don't really like being a grunt in a squad; all too often I find myself with a stupid SL who doesn't seem to understand basic tactics. I also don't like being SL as I find it quite stressful particularly when I make mistakes. I'm also not all that talkative though I try to keep spirits up by singing and humming and saying how stupid Squad 2 or whatever is because they're way off at the edge of the map doing jack all.
I really prefer supportive, longer-type gameplay, and I'll often make a squad specifically for engineers to build commander assets or run around as a sniper or anti-tank or some other such highly specialist kit. Man AA, build stuff, whatever. Though I think I do fairly well in a fight (I always seem to find myself running forward alone when I'm with a group of people and then having to wait for everyone to catch up because they keep dying) I sometimes prefer good ol' secondary objectives like patrolling roads on Fool's Road or whatnot.

I check the teams and if I can jump to the other team if I'd like and if I can. Then, I search for good squads, if I can't find a team-worker one, I create my own squad with name like "TW&VOIP".

First, I'll check the teams are even. If they're not and I can switch to help the team at a disadvantage, I will.
Second, I'll look for a squad that needs help. If there is a squad with 5 members that don't have a medic, I'll join them and be a medic or whatever the SL requests.
Thirdly, if there isn't anyone that needs help, I'll check that the commander isn't lost or stuck in a hole.
Then, if all is well and nobody needs urgent help, I'll look for a squad called
Failing that, if all squads are either full or locked, I'll start a squad with a relevant name to encourage people to join in with the task at hand.

maybe off topic but it also helps to split your squad into 2 fire teams

(on large map)
first thing i do is see if any aircraft are avalible. if they are i check round timer (caps lock nect to tickets) i find aircraft usually spaw just after each quater of an hour as people take them then crash and then they respawn.
if its less than 5mins till spawn i make pilots squad and sit in AA whlst waiting.
if no jets are avalivle or its a long time until they spawn i take a look arond the base and repair stuff. occasionaly i go in the transport helis but im **** at landing. after that il grab a vehicle or join an infantry squad.
on an infantry map i look for any sqaud using VOIP or if there isnt one avalible make one.

I check out the squads, try and find one with a rally up. If there isn't one I'll just hop in whatever open squad I find and hope for the best. If the squads are all ****/locked, I switch to another server and try again.
I'm normally one of the first to load when maps change, so often I'll start a squad at the beginning of a round, but if I come in during a map I just squad up and pray that my SL doesn't suck.

You should know better
then think about doing something useful.

well... been out of it for a while but when i get some more experience back in the saddle:
start a squad called "newbies". you'll generally get.. well, newbies. no one wants to suck. and everyone can shoot. give 'em a little advice, set up decent spawn points and be cheerful and they'll follow you around like puppies. i suck as an sl but me and my newbies always do surprisingly well.
