Warrior re-design!!!

Post by V4.SKUNK »

A couple of weeks ago the British Warrior got a armour upgrade to combat the ied/mine threat.
He is the new armour courtesy of the lovely MOD...

It'd be nice to see it in a new PR update...

Man, the DEVs make a nice warrior model, then the MoD comes along and changes it on them. What jerks.

Also, that is a combination of applique and slat armor, so it seems unlikely that it was meant to protect from IEDs. What you can see in the pic is probably to increase survivability versus RPGs and EFPs.

hehe, in fact the warrior model is nothing like as nice as our CR2 or Scimitar models, it was made well before vBF2's release.

Perfect excuse to put on the 40mm mid life upgrade turret too *nudge nudge*
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Might as well give it a leather jacket, some sunglasses and a bottle of "just for men" while were at it! :p

Before BF2 you say Rhino? What was it's original purpose?

Also how easy is it to paste stuff on to PR owned/contributed models? Does it require alot of arsing about or is as simple as making a small model and e-gluing it on to the original?

PR like many other BF2 mods (and many other mods for diffident games for that matter) was founded before BF2 (the game) was released... Its purpose was always to be in PR to serve as the British APC...

Was the plan to mod BF2 even before it came out then? Or did you have something else in mind?

What's this upgraded turret Bob speaks of anyway, I take it it doesn't have 6 round magazines...

And that would be good.

I really hope the Warrior gets updated. It it seriously underpowered compared to other APCs (most notably the Chinese on Quinling).

Project Reality : Battlefield 2 Mod - History
Project Reality began almost a year before Battlefield 2 was released to the public and as a result had much time for preparation and discussion on what changes could be made upon release. The Modding team took advantage of this to pre-produce art assets to gain a head start upon the retail release of Battlefield 2.
biggest problem we have with our old assets is that most of them are simply not upto quality to match our new work so much of our stuff gets redone which is normally quicker than fixing up the old models :p

's all good then! Is the AA element of the game something you guys are looking to add more depth to any time soon? Or is it kinda low on the list.

It would be if a contract for it had actually been awarded and we had references of the Warrior with both the armor and turret upgrade.
What's this upgraded turret Bob speaks of anyway, I take it it doesn't have 6 round magazines...
The project is called Warrior Lethality Improvement Program and several contractors have been invited to tender submissions for possible selection, the primary objectives being a gyro stabilized platform and an improved cannon. The 30mm Rarden is a powerful round, and a couple of the submissions could allow the UK to keep it, but in a weapon with a higher rate of fire. Other submissions have a 30mm baseline cannon that can be easily upgraded to fire 40mm ammunition which is contained in a telescoping case keeping it the same overall length as the 30mm rounds.

It came up in the Warrior / Rarden thread before it was locked, if I remember correctly.

With regards to the Scimitar, though, they're looking at all new vehicles rather than turret upgrades.

The new armour is designed to stop EFP's, it is also easier to maintain!(replace damaged panels).
It also has improved RPG protection. No one know's how the armour works, it's a secret!!! it's probably Dorchester armour, or some kind of laminated/composite stuff.
I'd like to point out the underside of the warrior has recieved significant protection.

Bah, just put the BAE Systems one on there. We all know the whole things rigged :p
