Free (and good) engine for games - HAVOK

"Is PR going to be a complete game someday?"


That question was made by almost every player, but because of many factors the answer always was negative.... Until now :o

Nice, sure there would be loads of smallprint though.

Also it's for non-commercial use so it wouldn't really be a proper game in that sense.

just looking over it real quick, its not a game engine, its a "physics and animation" engine which means it controls how objects fall, bounce etc and would become part of the game engine... Thou I may be wrong I aint done more than 2 or 3 paragraphs of reading so far :p

Damn, you are right, in first sight I tought that was about the engine, not only the physics and I ran to the forums.

being a developer I can tell you this is something they are doing as part of the PC push you are going to see. During the Game Developer Conference, major PC companies formed an alliance to ensure that PC gaming will thrive on.

This is one move made by Intel to do just that. You can indeed use it for free, in a commercial game, if its developed for the PC and released on the PC first. If you choose to apply it to any console use, you pay for the rights.

Also, this is being done to combat the AegiaX purchase by NVidia, as they are now adding the AEGIA support into the 8xxx line of cards, without the need of a seperate card for phyics. So if you run in SLI, you can set one card for physics and the other for graphics.

The only free 3d graphics engine I know is Crystal Space 3d. If you mix that in with Crystal Entity Layer, you've the basis for a game engine (graphics and "entity" logic).

Modding an already-developed game engine, and developing an engine into a game, are two entirely different things. What makes modding possible is that there is already an infastructure to build on, in terms of scripting languages, interface, and all that other mind-numbing glory.

There's a reason game developers spend millions of dollars with large teams of dedicated, highly-trained professionals who work 8-hour shifts and get paid an arse-load for it -- even when developing a game off of an existing engine (Havok is quite popular, both on PC and Console). Hell, the games development industry is so lucrative that they're able to pay dozens of functionality testers to sit around playing their WIP games for 8 hours a day.

Sufficed to say, we probably won't see any extremely high-quality free-license game developed anytime soon -- though there's lots of people out there trying.

hope the devs take alook at the link ....
but u might wanna say that since the engine is for free so u might not get the same engine as BF2 , like same gaming physics....etc , so might be better off to use the BF2 Engine for now.

and plus getting a new gaming engine for PR needs alot of money guys , so for now we can only think about it !! i quoted the PR devs from the last Xfire Chat :D

....... if you bothered to look 3 posts down, you would find my post which would suggest that a dev has looked at the link, and if you read even more into my post you would find out that its also not a game engine :roll:
